Thanks for sharing, and to add a bit

Folding@Home is doing mostly GPU work units right now for COVID-19, if you want to maximize your contribution specific to the current pandemic, you can disable the CPU for FaH and then install BOINC and enable the Rosetta@Home project witch is also doing Protein folding research, but they are sending out CPU work units for COVID-19, and no GPU at all.

Good post nkghtknight, DCS is the ideal community to work on F@H since there is a large number of people here with high end CPU's and GPU's. Here is the link to F@H if anyone wants to download it straight from the source. https://foldingathome.org/

A recent news article said that due to the Covid-19 outbreak F@H has seen a rise in downloads and now has more computer power as a distributed network that the top 7 super computers combined.

It's a good cause, dl and run it in your spare time.

Join the fight!

1. Download MS/Mac client & install: https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/

2. Open client / website: https://client.foldingathome.org

3. Get passkey: https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey

4. Make an account - Username / Team Number ( 223518 Team LTT  )

5. Close website and right click client in task bar hidden icons, set to full then open "advanced control" (start client from DT icon first if needed)

6. Press 'Fold' to start - 'Pause' to stop and 'Finish' to finish the task then stop.

7. Your folding. Client will auto download 'WU' or 'Work Units' and fold proteins both on your GPU and CPU. You can shut down or pause any time. Leave overnight running with ventilation.

Useful Server IP stats: https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats

Vid tutorial if needed:

F@H work servers are being emptied faster than science can create jobs, be patient, if no WU begin, restart the client after 20mins to refresh.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

  • 3 weeks later...

My wife and I have been doing this for some time.

Recommend those using AIO be cautious of settings used for CPU. The coolant in AIO doesn't like sustained levels above 64 on average. Check google and mfg for your cooler type before committing to a CPU load.

GPU can usually take it.

System Specs:

Stumbled across this thread and was curious, is there any sort of "Team DCS World" or "Team Eagle Dynamics" for Folding@Home? My systems have been happily folding along, though joining "Team DCS World" would be pretty cool if such a team exists.

"To avoid falling victim to this scam, resist any suggestions to download the Folding@Home software via a link in an email or social-media posting. Instead, go straight to the official Folding@Home download page. (There, you'll see that the real Windows installation software is named "fah-installer_7.5.1_x86.exe".)"

Can I or everybody else do an audit of the data which @home sent?

No? So data can be anything: from somebody's password hash to atomic bomb calculations.

I strongly advise you to avoid this USGOV honeypot!

Why would the US Government use a civilian distributed computer network to do basic nuclear science?

Oh and here's the full list of current F@H projects, their individual contributor sponsors and contact details for each: https://apps.foldingathome.org/psummary

But I'd avoid looking, you'll get Coronavirus from your wifi network! :smilewink:

Who said to you that this network is (((civilian)))?

Anyway, data distribution in @home network is non-transparent, content of the datablock is not available for end contributor for simple audit, documentation about datablock structure is not transparently available.

So i strongly advise to you to avoid "folding coronavirus at home".

IMHO better way to contribute is to mine *coins and then donate them to the charity.

I'm sorry...The Folding@home project has been around for years with zero issues.

Your concerns are unfounded.
