Folks,

I'll be making two videos (I'm hoping tomorrow). First one is a setup video tips and tricks. The second will be showing the PointCTRL in action. Both from the perspective of "inside" the cockpit (VR) through the mirrored view on the monitor and the external head/hand interaction.

If there are any other topics, do let me know.

FYI, MilesD, Los, and mariner3302 are helping to streamline as many things as possible before MilesD goes bigtime! I know everyone is itching to get going, but we believe a little time upfront will be worth it.

Hello, When in the list I’m the 108 how much time approximately ill have to wait to get my control?

I have been building the PCBs and I have purchased a second 3D printer. We are still working through some firmware optimizations based on feedback and recommendations from Los, Mariner, and HansangB. I have not even been close to when I thought I would be ready. But, I can say that having these three guys on board is helping immensely.

My optimistic goal is to work up to 10 units a day. I will be contacting 5 more people from the slow roll over the weekend and expect to ship those out on Monday. I wish I could give you a more definite answer.

Thanks,

Miles

You've been exceptionally informative Miles in this whole process so thank you for that. I know we are all eager to get our hands on this device but I think its fair to say that none of us would have had the resolve to 'do this right' like you've been doing in building/rolling this out. Its been a pleasure to come here daily & see the progress!

I'm on the initial slow roll out list & will have bandwidth next week/weekend to test this if you are looking for a volunteer on that list.

I wish I was on that list...haha

But thank you people who are on that list, to work out any kinks before I get my unit! :D

PointCTRL is actually easy to setup/install, calibrate, and use. There aren't many steps and after you have done them a few times, you are there. Kind of like a bicycle... you don't get it - crash, you don't get it - crash, then - oh, I got it and you don't crash much anymore. Most of the 'kinks' have been in figuring out how to get the new owner to see and understand then do the few steps necessary to get up and running. Don't overthink the instructions. Just do what is asked and depicted. If you miss a step or something, start over-you'll get it. It may be an idea to start a separate thread for PointCTRL owners to ask and answer questions and leave this thread for buying and interest.

I know that those of us that have had the privilege of testing PointCTRL are EXTREMELY excited to hear how cool you are all going to find it to be! For those that have just a HOTAS, pedals, maybe a button box - this is really, REALLY going to up your VR game.

Yea, Mariner3302 was feeling the pain for everyone, all because I forgot to tell him to ensure the "Use Mouse" check box was checked in the DCS VR tab.

That sure was an 'AAHHHHHH OOOKKKK!!!!!' moment! lmao

So all you folks out there that use the white dot/blue cross fixed to the center of your VR view... and move your head to place it over whatever you want to manipulate.. then you click a mouse button or a mapped mouse button like I did... THIS IS FOR YOU!!! lol

Does this mean you'll have to recalibrate the PointCtrl units every time you start up DCS?

No, Once and done, but you will probably find yourself fine tuning as you get used to it.

Thank you!

We just started shipping slowly to get feedback. 5 more are going out on Monday. Production will increase when all the bugs are out. But I think we are just about there. We can only online update the HMS firmware to add features and fix bugs. So it's critical we get the FCU's right the first time.

Thanks,

Miles

@ FireCat, Got it,

@ anyone: If anyone has the Rift S, if you could confirm or deny if the upward facing camera is needed for head tracking, or is it only for tracking the controller above your head, I would appreciate it. I ask because the PointCTRL HMS will cover the center camera. It probably wont make much difference if its offset a little after calibration. But if it uses the camera for head tracking I will make a new HMS mount and PCB configuration specifically for the S.

Thanks,

Miles

Miles,

The manual states "The headset has five wide angle sensors that power Oculus Insight, which precisely tracks your environment and instantly translates movements into VR."

The cameras are used for 6DOF positional tracking for the headset.
