Default Stupid question about autothrottle

I think it’s for landing only. I’m not entirely sure, but the jet has to be in landing configuration. (Gear down, landing flaps down)

Edit from NATOPS:

So, unless the gear is down, maybe the sim is detecting a slight throttle movement and is causing it to revert to boost. That’s my final answer.

My experience:

Gear down, landing flaps, speed on 150kn down, Nose up on 5 deg and then activate Autothrottle. Works everytime.

Fairly certain AutoThrottle puts on on speed and keeps you there. That way you just control your descent with pitch and it will "auto" throttle to stay on speed.

that is correct. autothrottle in the Tomcat is for onspeed landing configurations only and not to be confused with autothrust, as some other jets offer it. In normal cruise configurations it will not work.
