Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney - P-51D Campaign info

Recommended Posts

I just finished today, it was a pleasure flying your campaign. As a mission and campaign builder myself (for IL2) I appreciate all the hard work that was put into this campaign. Bravo!

The only thing it took away from the full experience is the fueltank bug that they have yet to fix for the P-51D, where you can't really use the fuel from the droptanks or the rear tank. However, it does not break the campaign because the regular tanks have enough fuel to fly the full missions anyways.

I'm fully aware that the bug has nothing to do with your campaign.

Thank you so much for the kind words, I’m really happy you enjoyed the campaign. It always pleases me to see that my efforts paid off and people have fun flying these missions.

If you enjoyed it you may want to try my other campaign “The Big Show” - and there are others to come ;)

Thanks again!

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you like it :)

The attention to detail is tremendous. From the vehicles and soldiers crossing by to the audio, it's all there. Nothing gets monotonous and the pacing is spot on. I don't know if this was programmed by a spawn or happened by chance, but I just had a B17 escort mission that went perfectly- shot down some 190s that tried to intercept and started the flyback across the channel. Thought all was well and then out of nowhere, bounced from a 109 about halfway across and shot down when everything seemed safe. It's the stuff like that.

hello,

i am trying to purchase this campaign, but the DCS page is not allowing me to (no purchase button).

i have the other required mods (P51, Normandy, WW2 assets) but is says that i require something else.

the purchase page says, "Requires DCS World version 2.5.4 or above!", but i am running the latest version of the open beta

any ideas?

Is this still an issue with the P-51?

Hello Reflected,

I have just flown 4 missions so far. The campaign looks great but unfortunately, as soon as I am close to "big boys" my FPS drops to 10-15 and the game is a slideshow.

Of course, I tried to eliminate a number of AI units via comm menu (immediately after my spawning at the start of the mission) but still I can count min 20-24 B-17s in the air...

Note: my PC spec is above average (see my signature) and I have 60-80 FPS stable in normal gameplay SP and MP.

Do I miss something? Or what kind of settings optimization would you recommend me to lower to make the missions playable?

THX

I'm having the same issue, and I just confirmed that I have wake turbulence turned off. I can maintain 40-60 at 4K; when I encounter the bombers in Mission 3, it drops a bit, but not terribly. But as soon as the bombers drop their bombs, my FPS plummets to 7-10. After that it never recovers.

I should note I haven’t tried the ‘limit AI’ option yet and that I’m on 2.5.6.

Yeah, when they drop their bombs it’s a huge fps killer. I did a little trick, only around 1/3rd of the bombers actually drop but it’s still bad. Fortunately it only lasts 20-30 seconds. After that your fos should recover. I haven’t tested it in 2.5.6 yet. Not sure why dcs can’t handle so many bombs in the air.

Your Pc is way better than mine. I think you haven’t turned off wake turbulence in your settings. Try that, it should help a lot.

THX, disable Wake turbulence helped a lot. Meeting Big boys do not cause drops below 60 FPS now.

Attacks of the luftwaffe and massive pay back shooting from B-17 gunners causes FPS drops to 20-25 though and dropping bombs even more (10-15 FPS). But fortunately that not last for a long time so I can say the missions are playable now...

My suggestion: maybe a restriction of the number of active B-17 gunners (if possible) would help to the better performance in the heat of the battle.

tapi, that's a great idea you had! Actually, it's very easy to rstrict some bombers from firing. There were already some who didn't drop to ease the performance hit, now I changed the missions so that even less bombers actually drop, and those will hold their fire. There's still enough gunners blazing away, but hopefully it will make performace better. I'm currently re-checking every mission because of the 2.5.6 spawn bug, but I'll implement these changes too. Thanks for the idea! :)

I have an issue on mission 3.

There are 2 trucks driving on the taxi way that crash into one of the taxiing aircraft causing it to explode, and stopping any other aircraft from being able to taxi or take off. So only myself and one other plane make it into the air.

I tried deleting the trucks in the mission planner, but then I cannot occupy any aircraft including the one I’m supposed to to fly the mission.

Hi,

Thanks for the report! As mentioned in this thread:

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=264642

the 2.5.6 update completely messed up the parking spots in the Normandy map, and also made spawning more sensitive to the proximity of static objects. I have 50 campaign missions released, so it took a while to fix and test all of them, but it's now been submitted to ED, and it should be included in the next update. Thanks for your patience!

Just flew mission 7 and Bf 109 from Evreux did not take off. We flew at recommended alt 18 000 ft from the course 150.

Thanks for the report. I noticed the same. Did you get the callout "engaging x bandits at angels 17", but saw nothing? It's because they were there, but much, much lower. 2.5.6 messed up the AI climb behavior too. I fixed the mission already, it should be included in the next update. I strongly suggest you wait for the next patch before you fly another one, because 2.5.6 messed up my campaigns on all levels. It took me a few weeks to correct everything.

If I remember correctly, I did not hear callout. F10 map showed me the enemy aircrafts on the airfiled's aprons. No enemy icons "in the air".

Thanks for your ongoing work to solve the problems.

Those are static planes. The AI is hidden on the map by mission design. They cicled over the airfield at 3000 feet, then the next waypoint i Rouen, 17000 feet, but since 2.5.6 they just keep flying North at 3000 feet, then attempt a vertical climb when they reach Rouen.

So I made them start the mission circling at 17,000 feet. Less elegant than making them take off form up and climb, but more "update proof" haha.

Also, please note that you might also have been off course: there is a lot of wind at altitude. If you navigate righ,t you pass just West of Rouen, then straight to Evreux. A glance at the F10 map also helps.

OK, understand. I did not know that. It is good that AI is hidden on F10 map.

I know mission 7 suggest course 155. I flew this course all the way across the channel but then intentionally turn slightly left (course 145-150) in order to see the Evreux - Rouen space (and potential enemy planes) on the right side of my plane, i.e. not to miss the enemy because they would be hidden under the nose of my aircraft.
