[REPORTED] Fps drops when the engine is running

Hi, I have discovered an issue that persists with the FW190 A8 and the Yak-52. I have already informed nineline about this but thought a bug report would be useful.

 

The issue appears to be linked with shadows and when they are turned on or is possibly made worse by shadows.

 

On the ground with the engine off in 2D I get 190-200fps. In VR I get 60-70.

When the engine is running and prop spinning in 2D the fps drops to 120-140. In VR 25-35 fps.

 

If shadows are turned off the fps increased a fair amount but there is still a drop.

 

The issue is noticeable in Multiplayer more, If someone joins In a Yak or Anton the frame rates deteriorate and only get worse as more join in the same type.

I'm sorry I don't understand? This is already a known bug with the yak-52 and I was just making sure they was aware the Anton also has this issue. Are you saying the frame rate is supposed to drop?

It is a bug as this does not happen with any other aircraft apart from the two mentioned above. I couldn't fly in vr for months because I thought my rig wasn't good enough. The issue still exists without VR. As I have said Nineline had already confirmed the bug for the Yak52 and I was just informing you all that it exists for the anton. Not sure why it is being disputed. I have spent a long time testing.

 

No other aircraft has a 30fps drop when the engine starts, which gets worse when more of the same type are added.

 

If you fly in a mission or server where there are no Yak52s or Antons other than yourself you probably won't see it

I didnt notice any fps drops, but i dont use VR

 

Yeah without vr you don't actually notice the large drop in frame rates, it exists but I isn't critical or even noticeable unless you are looking for it!

I am stable at 60 FPS so i will not notice if it drops from 200 to 180 ok

Again like I have stated it is more of an issue when flying in VR and with shadows enabled. If you are locked at 60 you won't notice this unless there are multiple fw190s.

I have attached 2 screenshots showing engine off and on.

 

Have you tried difrent rpm like idle and 1500rpm if it has any effect on fps

Yeah I have, it appears once the prop is spinning the fps drops right until the prop stops. I tried takeoff power, idle, cruise.

spinning prop animation is too much for modern computing :)

It appears to be the case!

From my simple mind thinking it could be something to do with the shadow trying to reflect onto the prop. Although it might have nothing to do with that and just be a random error

Yes this has been tried on many drivers and different gpus. I do feel like a bit of a broken record saying that this is already a known bug. Not a hardware bug.

I've reported it, I noticed its much better or at least not as apparent with vsync on, but regardless I have let the team know.

 

Thanks nineline, vsync won't help in vr unfortunately since it dips my fps below 45!

 

Any progress on the same issue for the yak or not yet?

Its known, and sorry this was reported for a while, but I forgot to update this thread, I just submitted new FPS data to the team as well. The Mustang doesnt have these drops that I can see, so something id off or missing.

 

The mustang has an older propeller model, perhaps it is something to do with that

Could be, hoping they will figure it all out.

 

The only thing weird I noticed in my tests is even with vysnc, the frames are not smooth, but the Spitfire and Yak are, so something more there.

Hmm that's interesting, does the yak have a similar spikes as the anton or is it more stable. I wonder since the effects are both worse on those 2.

What was you doing when you did these tests? Just on the ground. I wonder if the fps changes with rpm/power changes
