Do you play with labels on?

Aside from human vs human, I think labels on when enemy AI is set at excellent would level the playing field. But I wonder what goes into the coding to determine the different AI skill levels. Also, if the AI can see through mountains or if they see just as well in the night as in the day (do they?), that should be fixed. Perhaps metal gleaming in the sun could be another option to help spot the enemy. They have that effect for the Battlefield game sniper scopes.

I certainly use labels when Offline. If I don't, I never see my opponent before he has me lined up for the kill.

With the new dots/reduced labels option, I absolutely play with labels on.

Ha! Good point! I have 20/200 vision too...maybe if there were labels available in real life, I could have become a fighter pilot!

I fly SP only in VR, so yes I will use labels as needed for maximum enjoyment on my end. Have them set to a joystick button so toggle them off and on as needed.

I mostly fail to spot and (visually) track air targets but I still dont use labels because it takes away so much gameplay...

Maybe it would be a good idea to be able to select what kind of labels to switch on so you can for example use labels for planes but not for missiles.

"I just believe if I saw it with my own eyes" - and I can tell you: Stars in the night sky are a lie, because it's pitch black! If DCS was a pilot simulator, it would send me home as well. Per Pedes.

Too bad labels don't help doing AAR, because having less than 1/20 and practically no PV doesn't help either rdlaugh.png

ED could at least give us back the bigger 1.5 cursors...

But I'm glad with everything we have - without simulations, especially at that grade, I'd never even come close to experiencing this at all.

It is possible to do this. You have to edit a .lua file. You can choose what type of label also. For example only dots or full name with range. You can also choose the range at which the labels appear.

I don't remember the name of the lua file but google should help you out.

I have to; in VR, I can't spot anything without some kind of indicator. I like the new system where you can really have some minimal labels a lot better than full labels.

same. I bind a key for on/off labels quickly.

I am thinking a reflection / shimmer type effect for air and ground objects of interest may be a good compromise between realism and hardware / physical limitations?

Yes I mentioned that too. For planes, that might be possible due to cockpit glass or metal colour paint schemes. Ground objects may often be in camouflage matte colors which may be less viable?

Even with minimal labels selected, the labels are still too large (imho) in VR.

Two things...reason 845874 VR isn’t where it needs to be for flight sims yet and I’m surprised so many people use labels in a sim meant for realism.

Can’t stand labels although in some training scenarios they’re useful.

Because it is almost impossible for some people to see enemy aircraft without them. I find a lot of difficulty in 4K and VR to see enemies more than a mile or so away, so for me, labels are essential to my enjoyment of the game.

I turn them off until I really need them though.

No...only noobs plays with labels on.

Its funny in a way. This thread started out with some helpful statements and light banter, then in time it turned into this. I often wonder what drives people to make statements that attempt to put themselves on a pedestal when in reality, they demean themselves.

Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't.

But when I do, I use my modded labels that aren't too obtrusive.
