How to save templates ?

Hi,

Probably a stupid question, but I didn't find the answer on the forum.

Just to confirm, if I create a template and want to save it just in case I have to re-install DCS, I have to save the templates.lua file, correct ?

Thanks,

Vincent

There are two types of Templates: Unit Templates & Static Templates; and both are stored at /Users/your-user/Saved Games/DCS/ ... so they are not affected if you re-install DCS.

Unit templates are at /MissionEditor/templates.lua/ while Static Templates are on the /StaticTemplate/ folder.

However, you can back them up if you want, just by saving the whole /Saved Games/DCS/ (or DCS.openbeta) folder.

But I don't have StaticTemplate folder. How is it created ?

When you save your first Static Template, the Mission Editor will create it for you. I've found this kind of Template more useful than the Units template, so I've edited quite a few:

Ok, I have placed static object and save it as template, but the folder does not appear!

What am I supposed to do in DCS for the folder to appear ?

Thanks.

Are you running stable or open beta?

I have just tried this for the first time and the folder has been created under

I am running the stable version.

I tried a FARP and a bridge without results. What kind of objects did you place ?

I have just retried with a Road outpost and various FARP elements (having first deleted the StaticTemplate folder).

Then selected the SAVE STATIC TEMPLATE option from the EDIT menu in the Mission Editor - went to file explorer and the StaticTemplate folder had been recreated with the new file in it.

Strange ... if you create it manually, using windows file manager, and then save a static template, does the template file appear pn that folder?

No, again nothing.

Here is a Tutorial on Static Template usage ... it doesnt cover the aspect of where the templates are stored, but please see it and confirm that you are saving your template the way the tutorial shows:

When you get to load your template, does it appear on the list?

Found it! I am really stupid!

After created the template, I have to save it via EDIT/Save static template, and I was using the icon template only.

Thanks all for your advises.
