Frame Rate Stutters While Powered On

Solid84

Recommended Posts

It isn't a swapping issue or anything like that. This is map specific since it only occurs on PG. This does not happen on Caucasus.

It's happening on the Caucasus map *now* but I'm not sure if it's location dependant or due to core DCS changes i.e. MiG-21 now has issues in the Caucasus in 2.5.4 while it seemed ok (except for the afterburner) in 2.5.3.

Still an issue, ran into it last night. Setting a window that doesn't show terrain alleviates the problem.

Also have similar issues that seem to relate to the terrain. If I turn the terrain off, even on the map display, my frame rate seems steady.

To add to this however when I get the frame rate drops, my GPU utilisation and Shader clock drop massively (down to 0% it seems). I've been trying all sorts, even bought new RAM, but does seem to be the terrain system.

Problem is still persistent and breaks MP play to such an extent it becomes impossible to fly a helicopter once the NS430 is in terrain or map mode due to the FPS lag.

Other MP clients suffer from the FPS lag as well as they too report lag spikes once I set the NDS430 to terrain mode.

Still a problem, the NS430 in terrain mode is a huge resource hog that affects the server and connected clients.

Also just here to report same type issue and note BN's response was several months ago with no 'update'.

Massive frame lag when on the NAVterrain page in Caucasus map (not tried on other maps yet). Back to NAVmap page and framerate resumes as normal.

Single player not tried it on MP and using VR headset. Related to the terrain height display?

Going to maximum range under NAVterrain will crash my game. The log file is...interesting.

thanks I will try and reproduce

if you have a zip folder that was created after the crash please attach it, sometimes has the track replay inside also

And here i was just about to buy this on the sales.

But seeing that big bug being not adressed since months i think i´ll pass on this Abandonware

No not abandoned, just some bugs are harder to fix than others.

thanks

I was not able to reproduce, can you give me more detail, which aircraft, and was it 2d NS430?

Thanks

I think the big difference is that you're on the ground. Try either an air start or takeoff on Persian Gulf. The stutter effect is more pronounced and you're more likely to CTD if you're at higher altitude. I also noticed that it's more likely to cause a CTD if you're in multiplayer versus single-player. For me, I experienced it in a F-5E while at 30k feet on a blank Persian Gulf mission.

I don't have a .trk file for it, unfortunately, and there's no .zip file in my logs. I've attached my latest dcs.log and the .miz file. I also uploaded a screen recording of what I experienced to Youtube:

Hi,

My problem was solved when I enter on the menu and press “Inhibit Terrain”.

Try this

That is considered a workaround. I don't need to use NAVterrain, and I don't absolutely need to even use the NS 430 at all, which prevents crashes altogether.

The problem is that it's not working as intended, and it's never supposed to cause a crash to the desktop.

I know. I just didn't Express myself well, English is not my first language.

Sorry for that. I like to use the NS 430 and I would like to help

Mi-8MTV2 with integrated NS430 (no 2D mode), here, on persian gulf, VR with Oculus Rift-s, see logs & track cause it seems related to shaders:

Also, it's acting only when it's necessary to refresh the NS430 display. As long as you stay on ground, you won't see much unless the first 2 stutters that happen when you load the navigation maps. If you take off (not part of the recorded track) you will have a massive stutter-lag every 5-6 seconds.

Hope it helps!

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

The moment I switch the NS430 to terrain mode, is the moment stuttering and freezes begin.

I have no problems with the NSD430 when using any other mode besides map and terrain.
