Monitor ID # issue in Helios

Recommended Posts

This is not a question as to which monitor is my primary or which way they are located. This is a separate question as to monitor ID numbers that the operating system seems to allocate by itself.

Before I changed video cards and connector cables, my top monitor was #1 and my bottom touch screen monitor was #2. Now that I am using different cables and connectors, the numbering order is reversed. The top is #2 and the bottom touch screen is #1. In most cases this is no big deal. However, when using Helios, it can become an issue when resetting monitors. For example, in Loz’s profile, when I reset the monitors, the cutouts for the view ports default to my #2 top monitor and not my #1 bottom touch screen monitor. I cannot figure out how to move the view port cutouts to my #1 bottom touch screen monitor.

I have searched the web and trying to change monitor ID numbers is much discussed but is no easy task. The only method that seems to work is deleting the monitor registry entries, and connecting one monitor at a time. Something I am very reluctant to do. Does anyone have any thoughts on moving the cutouts or changing the ID numbers?:helpsmilie:

There is a way to fix this within the helios profile. You would open up the helios .hpf profile in notepad++

From there you would click on search tab and select find

Select the replace tab

then you would put Monitor 2 in the "find what" box

then monitor 1 in the "replace with" box

then select replace all

That should solve the problem without messing with windows settings.

This also needs to be done with any other helios profiles that you use.

You can solve the problem within Helios. When you reset the monitors at the bottom of the dialog it allows you to set the destination monitor number for each original monitor number.

If you have the time, please look at

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=186519

and perhaps you can do a fix like you did for the radios in Loz's profile.

Thanks

Working but confused

I played around with the profile file and now it seems to work, but when I reset the monitors, I got what is attached so now I am confused.

Note that my monitor #2 is my top monitor and monitor #1 is my bottom touch screen monitor.

  • 1 year later...

It has to do with the priorities of the video plugs on your video card--HDMI, VGA, DVI etc. The only solution that I was able to get was to buy a converter plug for one of my cables.
