ACME_WIdgets
I'm thinking of buying my first high fiedelity plane. Can anyone estimate if the F-18 fps (on low res settings, I'm on a slow system) is any different than the F-14 fps ? A little or a lot different? Thank you !!!! 5600x, EVGA 3070 FTW, B550 Tomahawk, M.2 Samsung, 32GB CL16, AIO 240mm VKB Gladiator Pro, Freetracker IR 3d printed, TM MkII HOTAS circa 1985 w/USB Asus 27" 2560x1440 60fps (so constrain DCS to 60fps) F-16, F-18 2021 = First year on DCS:
Midair
I think you will have more FPS with the F/A-18.
Harker
Definitely more FPS with the F-18. The F-14 has a two-person cockpit, so a lot bigger, more polygons etc and more textured surfaces. The external model is also more detailed, with more texture files than the Hornet, which will come into play as you look back outside the cockpit etc. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Stuff that isn't being rendered won't impact FPS in a noticable way. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
Harker
Sure, but it comes into play if you look around etc. Or if you're in the RIO pit, you'll see part of the pilot's pit, because it's in front of you. Plus, even just the pilot pit is more detailed than the F-18's. The only scenario where the F-18 could potentially drop FPS in a big way is if one uses multiple viewports at the same time (TPOD + MAVF video at the same time, for example).
