DCS: Mi-24P - What we know + Discussion

I prefer Mi-24V instead of Mi-24P. Much more interesting variant with 12,7 YAkB turret.

Most of us (including myself) would prefer V, I guess. It's gonna to be, what it's gonna be, and that's still better than nothing. I only hope ED won't replace the AI Mi-24V with Mi-24P. Hopefully someone will make a mod with that V flyable with P's cockpit and FM.

Agree! Biggest empty Spot in DCS definitely is a western Attack Helicopter.

And I hope ED will give us to both Sides as modern Helicopters as possible, to match the modern Jets like A-10C, Hornet und upcoming Viper. We need a Platform, which can survive a modern Battlefield und hit with decent Weaponry. This concerns especially the Blue Side.

Ka-50 is awkward but capable.

Btt, a Glass-Cockpit as shown in the famous BRRRT Mi-24 YouTube Video would be awesome. Don't know, which actual Version that is. Seems like a modernized Mi-24P.

As much as I want the Mi-24, the Western side could really use the AH-1F first to at least give them a real gunship of some kind.

You could argue, that it kinda will get a gunship with Mi-24. I mean, currently there are many of those in NATO service. Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia are all NATO Mi-24 operators. Plus there is Georgia, a potential NATO member and a Mi-24 operator, which actually even has a map in DCS. ;)

There are two helicopters shown in that video - one is a regular Mi-24P, the other is some other "P" with a new electro-optical sensor replacing old Radugas periscope. Might have been a test-bench for Mi-24PN. The cockpit is from Mi-24PN or even Mi-35M, as they're to the same standard. Might be wrong about this, but I think, that Russia ultimately scrapped the whole Mi-24PN project, settling for a purchase of Mi-35M, Mi-28 and Ka-52.

I know, you do. What I meant was that we'll get AH-1F (and possibly even AH-64A) at some point. Untill then it's gonna be fair to put Mi-24 on both sides of the conflict (and being Polish, I'd love to see it regularly available for Blue side in modern-day scenarios even after we get typical western combat helos ;) )

Am I right in thinking the AH-1F is 80s vintage with pretty much zero sensors beyond a laser rangefinder and TOW as the ATGM load ?

TSU has x2/x13 Day Optic with FLIR. TOW and rocket (on launcher zone configuration) and gun pods. Pilot has a HUD with TOW and other sight. RWR, GPS receiver.

Better equipped than I feared then, thanks.

Pity not to be getting something capable of mounting AGM-114s but I think you have to go to the AH-1W SuperCobra for that capability ?

the US Army move to the AH-64 Apache, the AH-1 Hellfire capable was only build to the Marines W and Z versions.

IMO Mi-24P makes more sense for any "single" pilot. Who does not want to fire that beasty cannon while piloting? :smilewink: Sure copilot/gunner still gonna be pretty busy with other systems.

We have to admit here that most of the time we will fly it alone like any other module that supports multicrew. Although multicrew, (hopefully in Mi-8 too...), might be Epic.

+1 to above though no matter if it's a version with a fixed or gunner operated gun, I just would like to get it. It seems there is a lot of waiting in front of us. Mi-24 just doesn't seems to have any priority right now, its far after F/A-18, F-16 and most even after F-4 which itself doesn't have priority...

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

DCS World Helicopters Update

Hey guys, it´s been a while...

A very very small mention about Mi-24 in ED newsletter on facebook:

DCS World Helicopters Update

Our current helicopter focus is on the updated Ka-50 for DCS: World Black Shark and DCS: Mi-24P Hind. Both projects are progressing well.

The Ka-50 update will consist of new functions such as Igla air-to-air missiles and missile warning systems with infrared missile jamming systems in addition to a substantial graphics overhaul. While new cockpit functions will be part of a paid upgrade, the entirely new and improved cockpit and external model will be available for free. In addition to a graphics overall and new features, we will also take this opportunity to clean up any remaining bugs in the Ka-50.

It is not much, but something at least...

Have a nice day

I'm glad to finally hear some news about the Hind.

But I notice that we are talking about a lot of things and that we can see different screenshots... BUT NO screenshot on the Hind progess! :(

Indeed, but what I can't fully ignore is how they choose to phrase this:

Our current HELICOPTER focus is...

And not:

Our current focus is...

Just saying.
