[REPORTED]VR Performance OB 2.5.6

Gripen 4-1

Recommended Posts

To be fair, 49798 ran great. Had over 50fps in my Quest (CV1 was locked to 45 though as I somehow can't manage to switch off that ASW hardlock in that one) in that when taking off from Senaki to the west. Since the patch after that I'm down to 30 in the CV1 and 24 in the Q. Just tried to fly on an MP server and got 9fps there (CV1 ofc)... well, that's DCS. It simply drops performance extremely hard with both AI things happening and MP in general. If you're CPU bottlenecked like me with a 3570, there it goes. The only options are flying alone in rather scarce missions with very little scripting or go pancake...

I have to chime in and say VR performance for me has been a bit disheartening since 2.5.6 and the recent updates have fixed nothing.

In SP and instant action missions I can run @ 60FPS which i've recently set my odyssey to run at 60hz and it's nice, but if I join any populated MP servers I'm dropping down to like 30fps on the runways, and while it does improve a little once I get in the air, there are still significant drops in FPS that make the experience not fun at all while in VR.

In 2.5.5 I was able to maintain at least 45fps for reprojection no matter what server or conditions I was playing in.. but lately in MP it's regularly dropping below that 45fps miminum, meaning even if I switched back to 90hz and turned on reprojection, it wouldn't always work because I'm dipping below the 45fps minimum.

I know the DEVs and community managers like to enforce rules when it comes to comparing DCS to other games.. but I can fly in my other favorite sim and maintain 60+fps at all times no matter what with 150%ss + msaa 4x in VR with my rig, all the while they've increased the rendering distances of many details. I almost am able to maintain 90FPS, but I switched my WMR headset to 60hz so I never have to worry about reprojection (it's much easier to ID targets without reprojection..pretty awesome)

Simply put, I've kind of given up on DCSW for the time being.. which is a shame considering how many modules I have a license for. I'll happily come back to playing DCS when the VR performance issues are sorted, or hardware allows for it.. but rocking an 8700k and a 2080Ti, I don't intend to upgrade for some time.

I'm in the opinion that any graphics improvements that hinder performance from where it was in the last 2.5.5 patch aren't worth it when it comes to flying DCS in VR. I'd rather have a smooth playable experience rather than prettier but unplayable.

I'm not seeing any change on my setup.

only think I can suggest is removing all unofficial mods, run a cleanup and repair, clean out your metashader2 and fxo folders in saved games DCS folder.

Attach your dcs log and a track replay so we can take a look.

Hey guys, my VR performance also took a huge dump after that last big update a few weeks ago. I made exactly zero changes to my PC, Windows settings, or DCS settings prior to the update. Everything always ran very smooth; I could always play Spotify, and record with OBS and Oculus Mirror just fine while playing, but I suddenly started having FPS drops down into the mid-teens after that update. I tried changing all kinds of settings in DCS, Windows, tried deleting metashader2/fxo folders, DCS repair, and more. Nothing worked.

Finally, I tried deleting my Saved Games folder (backed up important stuff, like control binds, etc) and ran the game. It seems to have cleared things up completely. I've been testing it on my single-player BFM mission with just DCS, and then with DCS, OBS, and Spotify running/recording...game's running really smoothly again. Maybe it's worth a shot for you guys?

Specs: i5-9600K (@ 5.1 GHz), 32 GB RAM, 2080 Ti, Rift S. Maps were Caucasus (multiplayer Just Dogfight) and NTTR/PG single-player BFM missions I made.

Edit: Forgot to say I really don't have any mods, and those that I do have are on OvGME.

Ah ok,

so it's our fault again...

You know, performance has been so terrible since the beginning of this year that we have pretty much all begun specialist at optimising the sim.

That is so disrespectful to tell us that we are responsible for the performance of your outdated core.

And no, I don't have any mod.

Where did BigNewy say it was our fault???

Charley,

I get the frustration, but.... please attach your logs as requested so it doesn't become "your" problem again. We are the beta testers and BN is trying to help but he can't see anything without your logs.

BigNewy,

Somehow DCS is being delivered to Government agencies using VR, so we can glean that if it works in VR for them it should work for us. Without disclosing confidential government info or being perceived as providing product endorsements could ED create a sticky that;

1. Describes the PC it would deliver to a customer, component by component that works in VR;

2. What settings need to be adjusted in Windows;

3. Oculus seems to be "direct" supported, but how would ED adjust the settings for a customer using Windows/Steam VR.

4. Provide a list of programs that have been shown to conflict with DCS and DCS in VR when installed. (IE: Seem to remember an issue someone had with a 3D mouse driver)

ED has a min spec and recommended spec but what is the spec delivered to a customer?

I realize there are quite a few videos out there trying to simplify these issues but many conflict with each other and are out of date.

Thanks BN and NL for dealing with our frustrations and trying to help when you can.

Sorry you feel that way,

the fact is everyone's machine is different, I have seen no performance drop on my machine. Im telling you what I experience, I am not making anything up.

I am happy to look at any data you can send me about your machine or a track replay.

I have deleted your last post here, please do not use profanity no matter how frustrated you get.

thanks

Hi thanks for the words of encouragement,

The military clients are using off the shelf PC as far as I am aware, we give them the same recommended specifications, but they are usually using high end machines.

Recommended VR systems requirements (VR graphics settings): OS 64-bit Windows 8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+ at 3+ GHz or AMD FX / Ryzen; RAM: 16 GB (32 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 120 GB on Solid State Drive (SSD); Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation.

I have asked for direct support for windows mixed reality but I have nothing to share with you yet.

Anti virus and real time scans are the biggest issues usually.

Why are you deleting my messages? I am not cursing just stating facts here. Several people are reporting performance drops with the last updates.

So my question is simple, are you going to hide it under the carpet or are you acknowledging the issue?

I would suggest sending me a PM I am happy to tell you how you broke the rules and why I deleted your post.

Please read the forum rules so there is no miss understanding.

As I have already mentioned send me your machine spec, dxdiag would be great, your dcs settings, log and a track replay showing poor performance.

if you do that I will try to help you, I am not a magician, without data there is no way to help you.

thanks

All right I will send logs of my poor performance issue, even if I'm sure that it will be totally useless considering the amount of data you got on the +50% VR perf (lol) thread without any measurable improvement nor feedback.

By the way my system is well above recommended.

I am try to help you as an individual. Not increase vr performance by 50%, if you provide the data I will do my best to help you, there is no need for this back and forth.

make a new thread specific to your issue and I will take a look.

thanks

Please supply your full specs via DxDiag. We cant help you if we don't know what is going on, and believe me, BN is doing nothing but trying to help you. Thanks.

Also, it might be better to close this thread and start a proper bug report with the appropriate information, this is 37 pages of being all over the place right now.
