Purchase from DCS e-shop

Fly the Christen Eagle II today! The Christen Eagle II, which later became the Aviat Eagle II in the mid-1990s, is an aerobatic biplane aircraft that has been produced in the United States since February 1977.

Designed by Frank Christensen, a veteran WW2 P-51D pilot and aerobatic competitor, it was originally built to compete with the Pitts Special. You’ll find that the Eagle is hard to beat in terms of flying excitement and adventure, and yet the ease of control allows even average pilots to feel like masters of aerobatics.

Although DCS World is a combat simulation as its focus, it is certainly not limited to only military aircraft. We are delighted to bring the Christen Eagle II and other civil aircraft into our simulation and expanding what DCS can offer.

Looking Beyond The Horizon

As the new year rolls in, so do changes in people’s environments. Last week, the first general aviation aerobatic biplane, the Christen Eagle II was launched for Digital Combat Simulator!

The Christen Eagle II, which later became the Aviat Eagle II in the mid-1990s, is an aerobatic biplane aircraft that has been produced in the United States since February 1977.

Below is a brief review written by our reference pilot, who was extremely important in the process of creating the flight model, providing not only verbal input but also recording in-flight footage. His input was crucial to get to where we are now. Now you can read his experiences with the process of creating our module, comparing it to the real aircraft and much more:

I have been a professional aviator for over 15 years and my family is heavily invested in aviation. I have been flying aerobatics for over 5 years learning basic acro in an Acrosport II, followed by a Pitts S1, and now the Christen Eagle II. I teamed up with Magnitude 3 this pass summer to assist in fine tuning the FM and the 3d model by taking videos along with pictures for direct simulation into DCS. Since then the Eagle’s FM has… Read More...

Based on users input and suggestions we’ve worked for the past week not only on fixing any discovered bugs, but also enhancing existing features – as you can see above, we’re working on more detailed pilot models with improved animations. We’re also updating trim tab animations, improving internal sounds and further adjusting the flight model.

Spring Awakening

as Winter is now only a memory for the most of us, we would like to share with you some news that should change dynamics of our development and give you a better understanding of our status this Spring. Earlier in March we’ve posted a teaser on Facebook, announcing to the world our next major project. It is time to explain this module in greater depth, as well as, bring some news on our other projects, primarily F4U-1D Corsair and MiG-21bis.

Christen Eagle II

Our little puke machine, which has seen multiple requests, asking to further improve it’s external and internal sounds. To address this request, we’ve decided to employ a sound engineer who recorded high quality samples of an actual Christen Eagle II during aircraft startup and engine operation. After processing and adopting for DCS standards, this sounds will be implemented to satisfy your expectations.

Magnitude 3 LLC - Autumn 2019 Update

Christen Eagle II

Our puke machine is not forgotten! Our testers are working hard to pinpoint bugs that users are submitting. As we collect the data, it helps our team develop a better solution to fixing the errors and we continue to work with Eagle Dynamics to find a solution.

So please continue submitting bug reports and don’t forget the *.TRK and DCS.log files!

Magnitude 3 LLC - Crouching Eagle, Hidden Fishbed

Dear All,

it’s been a while since we have posted something. The last few months were a real adventure for everyone, but as things appear to calm down we finally think now is a good time to say what was has been happening behind the door and what are we up to for the remainder of this year.

First to explain our silence, it’s fair to say that although that the beginning of this year has been very productive, the unfolding of the Corona virus has affected us just as everybody else. Although our development did not slow down, some of our plans were disrupted. As much as we are used to working remotely, this quarantine time has been a bit hectic. But that also created for us opportunities to think of some new features and give additional time to existing modules. With that in mnd, we hope you all are healthy and safe and without further ado, let’s have a look at what is going on!

DCS Christen Eagle II

As for our second released module, the Christen Eagle II, we have produced a sizeable package of improvements. Our primary concern was the flight model. The following is a list of intended changes:

  • Engine torque characteristics were tuned
  • Engine gyroscopic effects were tuned
  • Propwash effect was tuned
  • P-factor effects were tuned
  • Aircraft stability was tuned to retain previously matched capabillities and performance
  • Suspension model was improved allowing the aircraft to takeoff and land on some grass surfaces
  • Implemented instrument panel gauges’ oscillations / vibration depending on engine state and external factors (related to aircraft movement)
  • Navigation light switch bug was fixed
  • Over-priming the engine with more than 5 pumps floods the engine.
  • Added pilot’s flashlight input.
