RTX2060 and RX5700, which is better for DCS?

Recommended Posts

Recenlty I want to upgrade my old graphic card GTX 1050ti, because it cannot run well in 1080p resolution. My request for the new graphic card is that it can hold above 60fps with 4x msaa and high graphic settings in 1920x1080 resolution. I guess that AMD RX5700 may be ok, but I am not sure if AMD new card runs well in DCS. So the safer choice may be RTX2060, but it only has 6GB VRAM, which I think is not enough for DCS.

RX5700 is my limit because of my poor wallet while it has 8GB VRAM,and RTX2060 is more stable and cheaper. It is really hard for me to make a choice. I only play DCS World, only one game. I really need your help, thanks.

I bought a 2060 Super 8GB about two-months ago to replace my 1060 3GB, and the improvement in DCS is very noticeable. Probably 2x the FPS as before. My CPU is holding me back I'm sure, but the card has given me good to great improvements in several games. I'm very happy with it.

I was going to get a 2060 6GB, but figured it was worth the effort to cough up the extra few bucks and get more of that delicious DDR6 RAM.

I can't say anything about the AMD cards because I don't know about them.

Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

I briefly tested the 5700xt in DCS @ FHD and it is a solid card, I recommend it.

Freesync works too, better than Gsynced cards and Freesync monitor combination, unless you have both with Gsync, that would be best.

benchmark wise outside of DCS (no-one benchmarks with DCS), the 5700xt wins over 2060.

The 2060 super is pretty similar to the 5700xt.

Search my posts for a few comments on what sort of FPS I get in different resolutions for an idea - I have a 5700xt

Unless you are getting a major saving on the 2060, I would be looking to the 5700xt, or a 2060 super.

People round here seem to think the Nvidia's run better when comparing like for like... but I'm guessing that is old information...

now if you have a higher budget, the more expensive nvidia's will beat the XT, but at least here in Aus, you need to pay at least 50% more to get it.

If you like Russian Roulette go for an AMD :smartass:

Russian Roulette is everywhere.

Next to me I have:

Palit 760 GTX-> went dead and failed but could be revived at 180°C in oven

Asus 780 GTX-> went dead, maybe try the oven too

Asus 980 GTX watercooled -> went dead, maybe also try the oven

I cant say Nvidia is better. From all Radeons I ownwd only 1 failed in the past but I could go on with my list of failed Nvidias, like my 8800GTX-SLI setup that also failed.

And I dont buy budget and always have real nice PSUs and cooling.

the one mistake i wrote was the 760 GTX is an Asus that could be fixed in the oven, the Palit 780 GTX is still dead. Too many failed electronics on my shelfs, LoL.

If you dont know anybody with a failed Nvidia you obviously dont know many gamers or havent sold enough cards. I did.

I don't believe you, well maybe the palit card cause they suck. I have had all the series of Nvidia and i never had a failure and i don't know any who has.

Srsly? If it's electronic then failures are inevitable. Nothing is perfect.

Personally I've had two NVidia failures... an EVGA 8800GT that was 2mths outside warranty when it started artifacting even in 2D (a dry solder issue mitigated by regular "roasting" in the oven until I could afford a replacement), and a Zotac 2080Ti Amp! that decided to stop doing 3D after 3mths (replaced under warranty by the retailer with my current GPU).

The bottom line is.... nothing is infallible. ;)

I've had 2 GPU's fail, one Nvidia and one AMD. Driver wise, I've had more problems with Nvidia over the course of 15+ years. The past few years AMD drivers have been better but it goes back and fourth and does depend somewhat on the particular games you play. I don't think either has an advantage in DCS or IL2 since neither Nvidia or AMD care about our tiny community.

If I were in the market at that price point, the 5700XT looks to be the best option for a new card. I highly recommend spending that extra $40 to go from the basic 5700 to the XT model. Nvidia's product stack below the 2070 Super is pointless and shouldn't exist given how strong AMD is in that price range.

System specs: i5-10600k (4.9 GHz), RX 6950XT, 32GB DDR4 3200, NVMe SSD, Reverb G2, WinWing Super Libra/Taurus, CH Pro Pedals.

Believe me or not, what I say is a fact and those 2 cards still dead sit next to me on my shelf.

I dont need to lie at all btw, I just have access to a lot of machines and maybe that's why I see more electronics fail than an average user does. IT is my job.

I have not as yet had a GPU failure in over 25 years of PC gaming, and touch wood may that continue. I guess I have just been lucky. My son has my old Intel based X58 system with an I-7-950 and wait for it, a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX460 1GB card that can still handle Minecraft in 1080p. :)
