Possible Improvement for HP Reverb (WMR visuals to low)

Recommended Posts

I just set the option in WMR to low. It doesn't seem to have any effect on image quality in DCS. However I believe I noticed an improvement in performance, meaning I can now have a higher SS Rate.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

With native resolution of Reverb being so high, you have to SS? I don't use it at all and the visuals are really superb. What and where do you set the SS to?

I currently use the SteamVR default for my GPU of 150%, but have used 200% in the past. I see a huge difference in cockpit clarity between 100% and 150%. 200% is a step further, but the drain on resources is just too much for my settings.

EDIT: as discussed before, 150% SteamVR is equivalent to 1.2 PD, and 200% is equivalent to a PD of 1.4.

It's true the Reverb has a very high native resolution. However you can obtain a even better image quality if you super sample. I set mine to 140% on Steam. Test it, the picture will be even more clear.

I run a 2080 TI with a Intel Core i7 6700k at 4.7 GHz.

Has any one noticed a performance improvement by setting the value to low in WMR?

AFAIK, that option only affects WMR Cliff House stuff.

You run this even with the new scaling? Now 200% is like 3000+ per eye.

Yes. Not sure what your point is.

As I said, remember 200% is only a PD of 1.4. Just sounds like a lot!

No point. I just figured since the new scaling increased the per eye resolution, we would need to lower the percentage. Before the last update, 200% was way lower than 3000+ per eye. I'm new to this SteamVR stuff so maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

Ah ok. I would recommend you switch to SteamVR beta to take advantage of new options. That ‘new’ scaling has been in the beta stream for some time now.

Currently, the 100% is pretty much the native res, which makes a lot of sense.

The default value for my 2080Ti is at 150% which is equivalent to a DCS PD of 1.2, and 200% is equivalent to 1.4 or 3124x3056.

All I was meaning is that 200% sounds quite frightening, but when you say a PD of 1.4, it doesn’t sound much!

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. I'll try that and see what performance I get. I used to use 1.5 with the CV1, but I probably don't need to go that high with the Reverb since it has a high native res. I like motionvector because it gets rid of the in-cockpit ghosting and smooth performance when looking at the terrain at 3 & 9 o'clock position, but it does produce artifacts. I guess there's always going to be a give and take when it comes to VR. People get caught up in FPS too much. To me it's all about smooth play. At times, I've seen choppy stuttering gameplay while my fps displayed 50+. So it's not always about achieving high frames.

I use also 200% in SteamVR Beta with +3000PpE, and its Sharp like Reality and runs good.

I run 200% SS in Steam VR for it.

Also running 200% SteamVR SS, was using PD of 1.5 and noticed that the SteamVR is slightly more stable, and I was able to add 2x MSAA because of it. Noticed no difference going to Low on the windows setting, Make sure that the WMR window isn't repeating! make sure you hit that Pause button otherwise its an additional layer of rendering. I had this happen a few times and it caused some weird issues.
