I think you will find that there are differences between variants in weight, top speed is a function of weight, flight envelope and power. What I am saying is f you can reduce weight you effectively increase power to weight ratio right out of the box and you have less mass to deal with doing manoeuvres. Try loading up an L remove all ammo and flares, you've saved a couple of hundred KG's right there, doors, Vivian, well every bit helps. :D Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.
