Why are you all flying so low?

It's not a damn lawn mower

Come on, come high up in the sky!

You know how boring it is to chase down F15's that are affraid to fly any higher than 50 feet above ground level?:noexpression:

It's getting a bit boring now.

When I climb up to 30k feet and beyond it's almost impossible to get a lock, and in order to get a nice fight I need to join the lawn mowing superclan because I can't obtain a lock from all the way up there.

Your F15/SU-27/SU-33/Mig-29 won't fall apart when you fly any higher than 10000 feet, the aircraft is even designed to do so!:smilewink:

The average A-10 flies higher!

Now come on, I want to fight at some altitude.

Constantly mowing over the mountains just because no F15 dares to fly higher is boring.

Just do it, don't let your dreams be dreams

Simple solution, build an MP map carpeted with low altitude SAMs of both sides, people would soon be flying high lol.

Seriously though, flying high, if you know what you're doing can give serious advantages, and if you do get a lock on a low flyer, especially in TWS then you have a damned good advantage, IF you can get a lock on them, it's hard to hide in the valleys against someone who's at 30k ft.

High altitude is where the AMRAAM slingers want to fight, I'll stick to the weeds with my R-3Rs thank you very much.

For the 21, I fully understand and support that, as the jet is very limited.

......IF you can get a lock on them' date=' it's hard to hide in the valleys against someone who's at 30k ft.[/quote']

There's my issue. Getting a stable lock is very hard. A radar lock keeps breaking, thus forcing me to go lower in order to sustain a stable lock.

Why do you need to climb up so high? looking for fuel efficiency? escorting B-17s?

You can't hide from missiles or enemy radar when flying so high, and your radar needs to look down into the clutter, making it difficult to spot the enemy.

S!

I'm doing all of that, except for escorting B-17's.

Why the hell would an SU-27 escort B-17's :P

(Well, I'd escort it, straight to some SA-11 sites. It'll love it :music_whistling:)

A combination of the F-15's flight model and the missiles flight model makes flying high pointless at best and detrimental at worst.

Why so? I'm sorry, never flew the F15. I'd love to hear some explaination :)

Flying high makes it stupidly harder to dodge missiles, and maneuvering becomes more sluggish.

There is no reason to fly high. There are only SOME scenarios where flying really high will help.

Ultimately everybody has a lot more fun flying low, and hiding, then popping up close to a target in hopes of a merge and then it's a knife fight in a phone booth.

But hey, if you want to fly high and be a target for the world to see and shoot at, be our guest, we would love to kill you.

The rest of us will stay wherever we damn please, thank you very much.

It makes it easy for the 27's using data link. Sharing targets for people to come in with radars off and get a fast ET/ER kill.

One day in DCS... Vipers will fly along side Tomcats... Bugs with Superbugs, Tiffy's with Tornado's, Fulcrums with Flankers and Mirage with Rafales...

:)The Future of DCS is a bright one:)

I don't know where you're coming from, some fly high, some fly low, there is no one way that people fly.

I joined the 104th last night for half an hour, flew at contrails and higher, there were plenty of friendlies around me doing the same, I splashed 2 high bandits and 3 low, then got low myself and promptly crashed into the ground.

Welcome to Peer V Peer

I guess the F18 with its ground/look down (?) search radar will sort this problem out... with a bit of work.

There is no modern Peer to Peer warfare we can reference.

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

I think ralfidude is right, especially on this:

The rest of us will stay wherever we damn please, thank you very much.

It's a game. I play my games the way I want to play them.

Do whatever you want unless you annoy other people with your behaviour. (e.g. trashing the runways with intended crashes) :)

I'll agree in that I'll keep doing as I damn well please, 9 miles higher than you, speed of heat, and music on(Springsteen or something else patriotic). Sure I might be a target for everyone to see but I get a kick out of watching them try to catch me. Sure my turn radius may be the size of Texas but when the first indication of a missile launch is my slammer piercing through your canopy and I'm already 20mi cold, I'll say there IS a reason to fly high. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

There is stick and Throttle in planes to control where you want to fly ;)

how is flying low unrealistic ? Seriously?

This All is just one more way to say "nobody plays like I want, unrealistic & stupid game etc"

Physically realistic as throttle and stick take you low without problem.

As far as how the plane are actually employed in real life, it's not.

I'm reading a book about F15E during the gulf war, and the F15C providing cover to them are flying higher (at least 20,000ft IIRC)

But then again every one flies the way they want, I'm not saying everyone should fly high.

I fly Mig 21 mostly, and low flying ppl are easier to sneak on and kill.

High flying jets are a nightmare to get to without dying.

So by all means, keep flying low people haha. :P

Why are you all flying so low?

Gulf war.. Yes there was reson to fly high : Long missions, need to save fuel, lots of low alt threats etc.. Low threat from enemy fighters, so no need to hide and seek.. And many of saddams fighters where flying low because Blue side was superior (awacs etc) ;)

In typical dcs Mp mission you have short flight time to action so no need to save fuel, no lo alt threats so sure you can stay low.

Real life is different thing, air quake mission in dcs... Well i think that you know what i try to say ;)

Btw , real life you cant fly trough trees so easily so its too easy to fly low in dcs now :)

This is what I was TRYING to hint to, that it's more realistic to fly higher, but apparently people don't like the idea of flying above the clouds.

I'll guess I'll just keep the treetops trimmed.
