DCS: P-51D Mustang Coming in 2012

not interested at all, waiting for real fignter. However, nice work :)

The P-51D is a REAL fighter. More so than her modern counterparts. I'd guarantee most modern pilots couldn't begin to handle the stress of a squadron on squadron furball at 25,000 and only 300 knots. With contact ranges less than 100 meters more often than not. All while dodging fire from the bombers they're escorting, and defending flak from the Air Defenses near the target. That was real flying. The power of a Packard Merlin 60 and 6 Browning Ma Deuces, you can't go wrong with that.

Why is the rum always gone!?!?!?!

You should keep such guarantees to yourself ;)

They were well versed in detached escort tactics - you want to intercept enemy fighters BEFORE they're so close that you have to dodge fire from your own bombers.

But I agree with one thing you said: It is a real fighter :)

A P-51D?! Stick THAT in your cliffs of dover and smoke it...

But I'm curious as to what it will have to fight....

It is not that bad, considering all we did in the 2 old modules was plain ground attack. It would be good to learn the P-51. GGTharos, I'm in, by hook, line and sink..

Guys, you must understand the word empathy. Put yourself in ED shoes.

Would you like to have negative comments on a product that has not even been released? yet developed? I guess not.

So, as a gesture of good faith in ED, and to support their work (which is too good to be true as usual), I stand corrected in my own rant. Now, we might stumble on a thing or two from this sim that might even help us with the understanding of the aerodynamics of flight. Maybe develop some skills too. And its a departure from the usual ground hogging, and vicking... I mean dogfights are part of military aviation too. It deserves some attention at some point in the lifetime of an enthusiast.

Carry on, ED. And break a wing too!

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

is the P-51 the new "US fixed wing fighter" or is that yet to be announced?

+1

L'importante non è stabilire se uno ha paura o meno, è saper convivere con la propria paura e non farsi condizionare dalla stessa. Ecco, il coraggio è questo, altrimenti non è più coraggio ma incoscienza.

Aaah, escort missions... I'll be there in my trusty Pony, loitering 2000 feet above the KC-135, ready to roll in on any bugger lining up on it's six.

The stars on the wings of that dog-ugly aircraft is a ruse. Only the Jerries fly reaction-driven aeroplanes. Tally-ho!

Wish it'd have been a Limey crate though, for the banter and the wonderfully interesting instrumentation. :)

This should be intresting to see online against newer fighters.

To what end? I can't imagine any value in online compatibilty between them either!

Ok DCS, now you have to bundle the P51 with, at least:

-Duxford airfield scenery and surroundings.

-Airshow and air races themed structures (like an airfied full of public, inflatable pylons, cool paint schemes, pyrotechnics, etc)

-Aerobatic competition scoring system.

Maybe some of us will forget about blowing up stuff for a while and enjoy other aspects of flying.

Well, I am definately lookingt forward for the P-51 and I will buy it, as I buy any product of ED, just to support ED.

BUT

I know ED is making a great Job and tries a lot to keep us being on the fly. But honestly...the community was expecting somethings more. I do not complain about the P-51 since I pretty much belive that I´ll have much fun with that bird.

All I am talking about is that we actually should finally get some more information and may be some screenshots according the next DCS (Jet) Module. We have been waiting so patiently for any updates, which we haven´t got at all yet. Now we know somethings about the Mustang coming out sometime in 2012.

is that really so hard to provide us some more specific information or some pre Alpha Screenshots to make us cry?

Again, I am looking forward the Mustang, but some more detailed information would be good as well.

If it is going to be online compatible with A-10 and BS then that means you will be flying over our current map and perhaps Nevada.;)
