Bf-109 AI BEHAIVOR

Recommended Posts

AI 190s, Spits and P-51s are OP too. Set them to "average" skill at first. You can also disable their MW50 in ME.

If You wanna really enjoy AI in dogfight take wich plane You want (I normally take Bf-109) and go Vs the UFO aka Spitfire at Excellent level....

Sometimes it seems to me to fight like in the Independence Day first combat scene, where the F15 meet the space fighters :megalol:

I fly mostly Bf-109 and FW-190 vs the allied war birds. The AI skill level is set to "average" and their tanks are 100% full while my tank is only 50% full. I can mostly beat the P-51 with both German birds but more easily with the Bf-109. I beat the Spit in more than 50% of the duels with the Bf-109 now, but it took me a long time to get there. With the FW-190 I do not even try any more.

With the P-51 I can beat the FW-190 but it is tough. It is easier with the Spit. I have not tried to fly the Spit against AI Bf-109, I guess that would be difficult.

The main thing is to not lose sight of the enemy plane. If you do not see it, it is probably behind you. And if either the Bf-109 or the FW-190 is behind you, you are in trouble because they are faster.

Spit can beat AI Bf-109K-4

I fly generally on the Hun side, but I got curious and created a 1 vs 1 dog fight mission where I fly the Spit against the AI Bf-109. And I found that I could kill the Bf-109. Although that was my first fight flying Spit vs Bf-109, I did not find it much more difficult than the other way around. The AI in the Messerschmitt does not try to pick up speed and altitude first, but engages right away into the turning fight. And so the Spit can get behind the Messerschmitt and kil it.

The attached track is a bit jerky at the beginning as I'm struggling with the gun sight settings. And as I have little practice with this plane, I find its flight controls over-sensitive and struggle to fly it smoothly.

The bottom line is, I do not see why people get so excited about the capabilities of the AI Bf-109.

P-51 can kill AI Bf-109

I tried the same scenario flying a P-51, and it was basically the same result. It took me longer though to make the kill. The P-51's took longer to catch up and get into shooting position. Then I was handicapped by the awful greenish reflections I see in the P-51 cockpit. Often I could hardly see the Bf-109 through the gun sight and that resulted in lousy marksmanship. But I was able to stay behind and put plenty of rounds into the Messerschmitt.

So again, the AI Bf-109 can be killed because the AI pilot does not fight very smartly. Track attached.

There's no really problems in killing AI 109 with P51 or Spitfire, at least until High level, Excellent is another game...at least for the P51, for the Spitfire is a bit difficult task but achievable...

The real no match is...Spitfire AI set to Excellent level.....as I told...is more like an UFO....

I managed to kill one SpitUFO only one time...with a 109, for the rest it was near impossible...

The AI don't loose energy like me (sometimes appear to no loose energy at all), could manage 8g turn for an unbeliveable sustained time without going black or leave some pressure on the stick and could make deflection shot at impossible angle...

Probably I'm not so good at dogfighting so....but I fell that beating an Excellent AI on a Spitfire with my beloved 109 is near impossible to me.

It's not that hard.. Watch this video I've just made:

It will be easier when ED will fix 109 black out behaviour.. You can't pull too much Gs because when you want to ease the stick, the pilot suddenly blacks out and if you happen to use the flaps or throttle for example, the pilot will continue to use them even if he's unconscious. These are the main reasons I die in the 109.. very annoying.

Thanks for your appreciation! See you in the Normandy skies!

The only combo I have really struggled with is Fw190 Vs pretty much anything. And P51 Vs any German plane. I'm no ace, but at least in the others I rack up some kills. Spitfire is the easiest (and most fun). 109 Vs P51 is pretty easy. More difficult against the spitfire, but I can still get some very celebratory kills by means of boom and zoom hawk attacks and deflection shooting. I can't really nail the spits in a dogfight so my tactics are dependent entirely upon get in and get out, so I guess that's how it should be. As much as it could obviously be better, I have learned alot Vs the AI as a noob, especially deflection shooting wise. I'm gonna set up some escort missions for the P51 above 20,000 feet when I get time, but the real worry I have is the 190. Hard to believe that such a beast could be so sluggish and heavy, but I guess I need more practice?

To shed some light on why the 109 (a very light airframe) feels sluggish when attacking bombers at 25,000ft:

The 109 made max power at ~18,000 or 18,500 ft, where the P-51 makes max power much higher (~20-25,000 IIRC) which was intentional for its main mission (bomber escort.)

The problem the 109 had is that it needed to fight ground attack aircraft at low altitude, attack ground targets itself, and defend against bomber strikes, so they couldn't tailor it's boost curves like the 51 could.

I've yet to find a workaround for this, nor did the Germans.

The K-4 had a critical altitude of 6.8 km (22300 ft) and the ASM engined G-14 had 7.8 km (25600 ft). P-51 should be around 25000 ft with 67 inHG as you said, with higher manifold settings a bit lower.
