Doesn't A-10C feel more flight capable in real life?

Good tests and I like how you are approaching the topic. Keep in mind that the A-10 only operates in the way you are describing during BFM when the defender and attacker are in a spiral dive to the floor and both at steady tone but they are excellent data points. What kind of stores did you use to increase gross weight?

Thanks. The only reason I flew the profile like that was to get a bunch of data points in one flight. Was surprised how quick all the altitude was spent in exchange for the speed...

To get to gross weight I loaded:

Fuel 97%

GBU-12 x4

GBU-10x2

AIM-9 x2

ALQ184

AN-AAQ-28

Chaff 240

Flares 120

1150 CM

Also had the OAT set in the mission editor at -1c and QNH 30.24

I want you to focus on G available at 300 knots (planned release speed for levels and 10 LAHD deliveries). Regardless of configuration you should have no problem holding 4-5 G's with steady tone happening in the high 4's at the end of the maneuver. If you do this at higher density altitudes, it is possible to experience what we are seeing in DCS right now, which is the inability to actually get to 4Gs before steady tone occurs.

Re the higher density altitudes, this is exactly why I like the winter conditions in DCS A-10 to get better performance, ie when I did the Airshow Flight (

) I had winter conditions to get what I thought was more realistic performance from the simulated a/c. Temps were lowered to arctic conditions.

What specific altitude(s) would you like to see? Standard day wx conditions or something else?

Here is what the turn level turn looks like:

Too bad the resolution is so low. I see the escape maneuver starts at :50 sec mark

From experience it takes roughly 0 degree Celsius performance in game to get 20 degree Celsius IRL turn and fan performance. No hard data on that but based on my parameters a few pages ago in this thread it might be worth toying around with the temperature. Maybe the density altitude model is the culprit?

That thought has crossed my mind as well. Possible atmospheric modeling issue.

It is interesting to note that, if you want to explore the maximum aircraft performance (due density altitude), in DCS, the Caucasus map is by far the best map to fly.

Minimum allowable temp in mission editor:

Persian Gulf +14.3c

Nevada -1.3c

Caucasus -12.4c

I think I may have a way to possibly rule out the weapon drag issue... Will try find time to do some temp/drag testing later today.

There are some issues with the atmospheric model that were brought up in the past and acknowledged by ED (IIRC). Don’t recall exactly what was said at this point, though. So they may or may not apply

Thanks for that info Ironhand.

If dropping the temp 20 degrees gets more realistic performance... then a simple work-around while we wait/hope for an ED fix, is for the mission builder to simply drop the temp. Unfortunately the lower temps are map specific... Lowest temp in Persian Gulf is +14.3c.

Perhaps if ED allowed mission builder to select cold temps in all the maps independent of the month selected?

I imagine that would be easy enough for them to do giving up a bit of “realism” on a particular map. But, then, the flood gates open... :) If we can have any temperature we want, why can’t we have ...

True. I'm sure if ED wanted, they could come up with a better fix.
