You guys politicking for the Falklands are talking about 2 islands, with less HALF the surface area of the Nevada map, a whole lot of ocean and 2 months, 1 week and 5 days of actual combat.

I just don't see worldwide interest...

Then you're not looking hard enough!

Really looking forward to this map. The team have already made quite a few British units to go with it too. It would be nice to see all the assests Razbam has already made/is making to fit this era. Will the map be big enough to include the Argentine coast?

I would have fun with the Falklands to simulate what could have happened as much as what did happen. One thing we or I don't know is what aircraft ?

To my knowledge no Sea Harriers/Mirage III etc. have been announced, I've heard of an A-4 being done.

Mirage III on develop by RAZBAM

The A-4 has not into the plans of none 3rd party (License problems)

Am I looking at a LYNX on the rear deck of that destroyer, and the RN Had the Wessex, helo, so if we did go down south we would need those, just fo realism, and of course the Pucara and the Skyhawk. There were nocturnal flights by 737's and Hercs. Puma's and Agusto 109's....ok I'm in favour

I can understand why, but tbh, I think it's currently a poor choice of map considering the plane set we have in DCS*.

I'd rather have seen somewhere else in the South Americas like Columbia etc.. to support COIN ops with Razbam's own Super Tucano.

*of course we're getting Razbam's Mirage III at some point, but without a Sea Harrier, it's still not a great plane set for the map. Raz previously made noises about the Pucará, but we're still a bit short of planes.

I’ll have died and gone to heaven if we get a Lynx (preferably the army Army version with the skids)

We need a large fiction map combining all sorts of terrain features like mountains, ocean, islands, desert etc.
...why not add some martian desert, the dark side of the moon and a sci-fi asset pack, while already discussing fiction?

I personally would be more inclined for anything a tad bit more realistic.

And if you want mountains, ocean, islands, desert and wooded valleys in one map an Afghanistan, Pakistan, India map would be a good choice, or Australia and New Zealand. The problem with large(!) maps with all sorts of terrain, speed trees and buildings etc. is, that requires a PC that will be available in about two years, I guess.

That is, why current maps are the size they are and balance objects vs performance.

South Atlantic. For the mission Designer you are looking at absolutely everything happening in terms of combat. Submarines being machine gunned, Capital ships sunk, Sea landings, CAP, strike, runway interdiction, infantry combat with all parts and the sides presented had a good chance of going either way, rather than a massive lopsided force or some other odd constraint.

In terms of a "neatly packaged" conflict to simulate, with understandable ORBAT's and lots of well recorded history and immense analysis, it's a goldmine for DCS. When was the last time we saw Sub combat? 45 planes shot down on one side only, landing craft being bombed as they came in? It was a watershed moment in global history as it changed ship based defence systems entirely.

A lot of conflicts are mired with complicated ethno-political stuff that people can't understand (Bosnia's three sided stuff with NATO and UN arguing anyone?), wide ranging zones of conflict and difficult to comprehend positions. I think this lends itself to modelling a lot as you can encapsulate portions of it. It was a very basic and straightforward reasoning at an era of technology that was easier to model....not so much tech. And in my lifetime. The gulf war was so massive as to get lost in trying to simulate that in its entirety. Other's are equally hard. Short, intense and globally pinpointed scenarios work best. It's a good choice. Just the sea alone and carrier possibilities. Appreciate some people didn't grow up with it, but for you, we had to watch the movies. You can have the map instead here.

Actually that's not entirely true, the fact we are not developing a DCS A-4(and I'm a HUGE fan of it, created 4 volumes covering all versions for FS9/FSX and CFS2) is because there is already a community project going on, and due to the hardships that is to create aircraft for DCS, is better to add more content than fight over a niche within a niche.

This is great, I've been excited for a Falklands air war sim since Jet Thunder was announced. Sadly, that project did not come to fruition so I'm glad there will be another chance to visit the virtual South Atlantic!
