Performance increase with 32 GB RAM?

I definately needed the upgrade from 16GB to 32GB, but I'm one of those guys who think their SSD's might get fragged too soon by the massive amount of write cycles a pagefile naturally brings. I had one system drive dying upon me in my "carreer" and I definately do not want to live that again (Backups, backups, backups!). Was a HDD though, good old IBM IC35AVER07 -3 "Headcrash of Doom" (cursed). With 32GB, even without a pagefile, DCS runs pretty well, though it might crash sometimes, especially if you leave a browser with a gazillion of tabs open rdlaugh.png

But as soon as you've got a pagefile that adds up with the RAM to a total amount of 32GB or more, this isn't really necessary unless maybe you're going to fly online on servers with lots of stuff going on.

With a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 1080, I went from 16GB to 32GB and noticed some improvement in loading times and performance on multiplayer servers. However, I rarely see my memory usage rise above 12GB in normal usage, even with my preload radius at maximum. I saw much more significant improvement after replacing my 2600 with a 3600X and my old PNY SSD with a Samsung 970 EVO. So go for the new memory if you want since it definitely won't hurt, but it might also be worth seeing what your usual memory usage is in normal play.

I've used 32GB for years and could easily justify 64GBs, but not because of DCS or gaming in general. I use DazStudio and can hit 24+GB with just that program on a complex picture.

When I went from 16GB to 32GB I found an overall increase in performance because Windows could cache more files for quick loading. I wouldn't suggest anything more than 16GBs if all you do is play games and budget is any kind of concern, though. If money's no problem, throw in 64GBs and have fun being future proofed.
