DCS: Mi-24P - What we know + Discussion

I was in one about 17 years ago but it had been heavily modified by BAE Systems to integrate it with NATO standard systems, it was more like sitting in the gunners position of an Apache rather than a Russian helicopter.

Superhind?

Because it is made (modified even) in SA.

Helicopters don't fly, they just subdue the air.

Had a chance to sit in it's cockpit. It's a beast! Love this bird. Our Azeri Super Hinds are more modern than Algerian ones. Latest version (Griffin 2) is amazing.

That's an Mi-24V. The tell between it and the similar looking Mi-24D is the shape of the missile guidance pod under the nose.

More precisely, I guess it would be the Mi-35, the export version of the Mi-24V as it looks like a Czech bird.

See 1:36 (ish) That's a lot of muzzle flash - the aiming must be by holding the piper on the locked ground point that runs off the bottom of the display as he overflies...

or jump straight to it:

Hopefully it is the MI-24s ability to range distance.

In a typical ruskie formation, a pair of MI-8s and a pair of hinds will move into engage with the hinds dictating range.

Once the hell of unguided rockets are delivered accurately from the formation at 3000 Km to 1500 Km the MI-8s peal off and the hinds prosecute the target with true loving 30mm rapid fire hell..... I think this is the way it goes.

I think.

this ain't no Apache girly 30mm hell mind, this is real 30mm Hell!.... only the warthog knows a truer 30mm hell!

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

Interesting! This makes sense of the scenes in "Afghan Breakdown". Do you know where one could read up more on the Mi-8 + Mi-24 teams and how they operated?

EDIT: Just saw your post on the thread asking for the Mi 8/17 books!

From what I have read they are being developed alongside each other.

In parallel we continue our work on exciting project for fans of combat helicopters - the attack helicopter Mi-24P (was a long time since we pleased our helicopter enthusiasts, and ourselves as developers, by a war machine with rotor dynamics).

Also we started development of the famous fighter-bomber F-4E

Yes, and from this post on their website it looks like the Mi-24 is in a further state as the F-4E, as they were 'continuing' work on the Mi and only 'started' the F-4 at that time. But only time can tell...

It's my understanding they've been working on the Hind off and on since the Huey and Mi-8 were released back in 2013. The F-4E seems to have only just been started. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised they announced the F-4E this early. Normally they keep their projects a secret or at least an open secret pretty much up until a week or two before the buy page goes up. In any case, I'm sure they are working on them in parallel. Can't really program the cockpit till the 3d cockpit models are ready*, so while the Hind is being coded, the art team can work on something else. That's how it works for the whole project and any software development project in general. Everything is pipelined.

*The code can technically be written, but it isn't possible to properly test it in game until the 3d models are in place. So that kind of thing tends to be a waste of time in my limited experience. Obviously one could use placeholders, but that's just more stuff for the art team to make.

System specs: i5-10600k (4.9 GHz), RX 6950XT, 32GB DDR4 3200, NVMe SSD, Reverb G2, WinWing Super Libra/Taurus, CH Pro Pedals.

Pure supposition on my part, but they may even have some team members who specialise in either fixed wing of rotor FM dynamics, and those could be operating in parallel - Mi-8 while the other guys work on the F-18, & if the F-18 FM work is winding down as it gets ready for early release, then transfer that knowledge to the F-4.

Cheers.

Dont forget the multicrew and crew AI hats. They'd be bouncing between both projects fairly constantly.

That was kind of obvious.

Even next year is uncertain.

Yes but this is the first time I read something from BST about release of Mi-24.

Still wondering, how comes they post pictures of F-4, which they said that they just start work on, and dont post some pictures of Mi-24 which is developed for months/years. But that is infinite question :).

The truth is, that this year BST comunicating to comunity much much more than ever and that is good.

The answer might be country of origin of the aircraft. ED and BST are Russian companies, and Russia has certain laws with regards to depicting military craft still in active service. The slowdown on the Mi-24 may be BST keeping their legal ducks in a row.

I disagree, I much rather prefer them keeping projects secret and only releasing info when its coming close to EA release, but thats just my personal opinion.

And as far as the Hind goes, shame she isnt coming this year but if you added 1+1 you would have seen this coming. We'll see in 2018!

Mi-24 will not released this year :(

Thank you for sharing that FB stuff here on ED forums.

Despite many saying they´ve expected the Mi-24 not this year we missed an official word on that and I thought BST was very far in the development process.

I looked forward to fly the Hind this year and it makes me sad I wont.:(

Impossible. Utterly impossible!

2018 will see a DCS hind!

Unfinished perhaps, but there will be a hind by mid 2018!

And mark my words some1... its dual 30mm Kannons will work at release and will be coming for all negative/alternative thought contributers!
