haha I had this problem too. Just built a new PC and still couldn't run mission 3 even with the optional reduced formation size.

After reading this thread I realised my poor computer was trying to simulate wake turbulence from 100 b-17s (gulp)

also reflected if you are browsing your forum section just wanted to say thanks for breathing some life into DCS WWII. I really enjoy your approach to campaign design

Hi Screptre,

Glad to hear the old "wake turbulence" fix worked for you too. Also, thanks for the kind words. If you'd like to elaborate what you like about my approach, and what could be better (either here or in a PM), that would be quite helpful for me as I have many future campaigns in my head. I'd like to make them more user friendly and enjoyable, I just need to figure out what the community likes :)

Thanks again!

sure man. The first time I loaded your P-51 campaign and was greeted by the voiced crew chief and heard the sound of jeeps driving past and mustangs taking off, as my pilot yelled "CLEAR PROP" when I held down the starter, I was so immersed I could almost smell the avgas and burnt rubber :smilewink: Then I think on mission 3 you hear some 1944 radio as you're climbing away from the English coast. The little immersion details really add up and boost the enjoyment factor of the already great missions. I think the description on the store page for BNBOB says something like "this campaign will make you feel like a young flyboy in the USAAF." Well it totally delivers on that! After the first few missions I knew I had to get the rest of your campaigns, and I'm excited for the F-86 one next

the only thing I can think of is that the flak should be a lot thicker over nazi occupied france, but that might just be a limitation of DCS and maybe having too much would impact frames. Oh and sometimes B-17s in formation would collide. Ended up losing 2 or 3 bombers that way in one of my missions. and yeah the briefings are easy to follow, I never felt confused about the objective. I just wish there was proper WW2 native AI radio comms. It sounds a bit funny when my wingmen are calling out flak guns as air defence targets like they have a TGP, or when they use bullseye calls! Again a limitation of DCS, not sure if anything can be done about that.

PS I hope "other upcoming campaigns" means something for the Anton. It is a blast to fly and needs something like the Jagdflieger campaign

Hmm, I have wake turbulence turned off and used the option to limit the number of planes at the start of the mission, but still get huuuge frame drops when the fight happens.

I'm playing on a 2070 super, Ryzen 7 and 32GB RAM in VR.

Maybe you could add an option to limit the number even further for people who play in VR.

@Sceptre: I recently increased the amount of flak as well as the accuracy, but I think that update hasn't made in to OpenBeta yet. Problem is, Flak costs FPS big time. Also, I've seen a few threads saying Flak doesn't fire properly, but I'm not really following.

@MrExplosion: that's strange. With that system you should be able to play without removing units. Of course, a bomber formation will always cause an FPS drop. Still, I can play it in VR without removing the units with a Ryzen1600x, 16G RAM and a 1070. Someone recently posted a "VR Optimization Guide" on youtube, you may want to check it out and see if there are some good tricks you could use.

I already checked that guide and installed new shaders etc as recommended.

I do have all settings pretty much maxed tho. Since the bombers are not really relevant for the player, I thought like maybe 20 of them would totally be enough, so I could dogfight ze Germans and still maintain high fps.

The frame rate in mission 3 (the first bomber escort mission of BNBOB) slows to a crawl since the latest Open Beta update.

The frame rates have been suffering ever since the first 2.5.6 update mid February. ED says they are working on a solution. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In the meantime, make sure you use the "remove units" option in the F10 radio menu.

I have a 3900x, 2080, and 64gb mem. Even with wake turbulence off when the bombers drop their ordinance on mission 3 it absolutely tanks my machine. Then, when we merge with the German fighters during egress and everyone starts shooting, I get another hit not quite as severe as the first one but still pretty bad. I will try with the lesser units option and see how it behaves. Seems to me it's when DCS starts calculating all the bombs falling/guns shooting it's not properly optimized to handle all that ordinance at once.

I'm having massive framerate drops too, mine gets as low as 9, I just gave up in the end. I can't turn wake turbulence. I untick the box and I still have wake turbulence. So went back and ticked it, also wake turbulence. The option doesnt seem to do anything.

The thing for me is, I upgraded my PC from a GTX 970 and 16GB RAM to an RTX 2060 super and 32GB RAM but the performance is worse than it was prior to the upgrade. I've got latest drivers.

I had framerate issues prior to upgrading my PC but nothing this bad. To see such a significant drop in performance after spending a huge amount of money sucks.

Not taking a dig at you Reflected, I really like this campaign, you've done an awesome job with it and I hope to come back to it. However, these type of issues come up time and time again with DLC campaigns (and some other content too). It's at the point for me now having bought several DLC campaigns only to find I can't finish any of them because inevitably I run into a gamebreaking problem. I have had the F86 Sabre and the Yalu campaign on my wishlist since it became available (the MiG 15 too) and with this sale you'd think I'd rush to buy it but there's just so much content that seems to work one day and not the next so I haven't bought them.

@Shibbyland - if you have wake turbulence on, then that is the problem. We just need to figure out how you can turn it off, because you should be able to. Perhaps a thread in the 2.5 bug reports section would be worth a try, and someone smarter than me could chip in with some advice. Believe me, once it's off, it runs on my laptop with a 1050.

One thing you could check, please: open the mission in the mission editor, click on options/ mission options, and check the state of wake turbulence. It should be enforced in the "off" state. That is, first box checked, right box unchecked. Can you verify that this is what you see on your end?

PS: the Sabre campaign uses much less units ;) - and as soon as an update breaks something, I correct it or find a workaround the next day.

Well, I'd like to tell everyone than FPS issues are mostly solved in the big escort missions (at least!)

I was playing yesterday one of them with full unit count and it stayed playable the whole time at over 50 FPS, even chasing 190 across the bomber formation in the middle of all the fireworks. I got a nice machine but before it was just unplayable.

The only problem that remains is the massive lag spike when the bombers drop the ordenance and the whole bomb train starts hitting the city of St. Lo. About 30 seconds of slideshare DCS and then back to kicking Jerry arses.

I think I'm having the same problem, I came here, read about wake turbulence, it was already disabled.

I'm with DCS 2.5.6.58125 Open Beta

What are your PC specs, and DCS settings? Also, when exactly did you experience the low performance? Just when flying, or was there flak? Maybe fighting?

Maybe fighting?

I would say it's mainly fighting, it happened again in Mission 4, even when the bombers were far and I stayed with the attackers.

It's not a contant FPS drop, it's more like bursts, but when it happens, it's like half a second frozen, but constant freezes ... like half a second stoped, hald a second at normal FPS, sometimes only some seconds, sometimes like half a minute.

I would say a new bug on CPU in recent OB versions.

I have an i7 9700K, 32GB DDR4 and RTX 2080 Super, playing with HP Reverb, no supersampling

For the settings, can I export them to a file or something ?

Ah, I see. I'm relieved, because it's this bug:

https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/dcs-world-war-ii/western-europe-1944-1945/x-ray-damage-model-bugs/7144659-reported-stutters-new-dm-offline

With the new DM everyone is getting freezes as soon as an aircraft is damaged. When there are lots of aircraft - lots of freezes. Same with flak. It's been reported and ED is working on it. So it's not just you but basically everyone.
