How to spawn smoke?

I hope ED is listening! Ability to late-activate smoke effects would be excellent.

 

Ideally this effect would naturally occur when a building is on fire, and then extinguish after some time.

 

...or spread quickly, depending on wind speed and direction...

Is there a way to spawn smoke effects with a trigger? The problem is that "late activation" is not an option, because it's a static object. I want some smoke effects to appear as soon as a bomber formation flies over the city. What would be the best way to achieve this?

I have found that you can do this by the following..

 

Example:

 

Create a Trigger Zone that smoke will come from (minimum allowed 16 feet radius).

 

Create a zone where you want unit to enter to trigger smoke.

 

Trigger 1:

Condition - Flag = 10

Action - Smoke Marker Zone - (name of small 16ft radius zone)

 

Trigger 2:

Condition - Unit in Zone (trigger zone and condition can be set to part of group in zone, all of group, etc)

Action - Flag On (10)

My only issue with this is I can only get this to work once. If I try to make it continuous to mark zone on and off It will continuously and endlessly spawn the smoke over and over causing FPS drop near the smoke and huge smoke clouds.
