Tips to improve frames

Recommended Posts

I have an i5 3570k processor, 32gb of ram and a 6gb 1060 video card - yes its not the latest and greatest but I don't have the funds to purchase anything else. AND (probably the killer) I have DCS on a HDD whilst my OS is on a small 128gb SSD (it was expensive at the time).

So, what can I do to improve frames? When I go on larger servers like TTI, my PC chuggs quite a lot, especially around other a/c and buildings.

Tips?

I'm guessing your running 1080p here.

I would start with another SSD for DCS, this will more than half your load times.

Lower your trees down, msaa x 2 and perhaps bump your cpu to around 4.0+ ghz if you can.

These guy's got one to 4700 MHz. https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/core-i5-3570k-review,11.html

You can use msi afterburner to see what your system is doing when slow. I think it will be your cpu tho, as long as you are at 1080p.

I'd look up all the videos out there on how to set up your graphics based on your gear. After that, something that might help is turning "low latency mode" on within Nvidia control center for DCS. That may mean you get some stutters when things bog down, but give you better frames in most other situations. It really depends on your gear and how you want to prioritize things.

If you can't get acceptable performance after a day or two of trying things, you might just have to accept that your gear is just too under powered and start setting some money aside for a future upgrade.

Good luck ~

ok thanks guys. I'm saving up but have to get approval from my Financial Controller (ie. the wifey). I was thinking about upgrading my SSD (based on chats with a mate who suggested it) but realised the old neck bone is connected to the...something bone...when it comes to pcs and bottlenecking so you have to upgrade your CPU then MOBO then GFX card etc etc lol. Will look at some of the suggestions.

Cheers

Your Intel i5-3570K seems to be a good performance match for the 1060

For DCS I would still bump the cpu to make sure it's pushing / flooding the 1060 all it can.

SSD and bump is as far as you can go. Then you will have to ask the Financial Controller lol. For the full upgrade.

Example

I would go for the 1070 super I think. Then VR and or 1440p is playable also.

ok thanks mate - 'bumping' I'm assuming OC'ing?

Yep,

I wouldn't go over the top with OC'ing. You really need water or great cooling for that.

Just a good tickle, so she is ready to go. Shouldn't be to hard to get around 4+ Ghz on that chip.

ok thanks mate I'll give that a go. I do have a cooling fan but no water cooling or anything fancy. I've always been wary of OC'ing as I live in Qld Aust (only 2 seasons here - summer and pre-summer!).

Keep an eye on the temp with something like hw monitor when tinkering and when under load running DCS.

Don't push it this far. See he's cooler lol.

He is using CPU-Z here https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
