DCS updater not updating and only showing in Task Manager

Recommended Posts

Hope someone can help. I'm having this damm issue with DCS UPDATER. I try to run DCS and the updater kicks in. It shows up in the task manager but just sits there forever, it will not timeout and does absolutely nothing. Nothing is updating and nothing is being checked and DCS will not load unless I directly go through the dcs.exe icon found in D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin

I can't find anyone with this exact same issue so I'm really stumped. Here is what I have tried so far

  • Full uninstall and reinstall of DCS and all the modules (that fixed it for like, ONE day)
  • Full shut down and restart of my machine and windows 10
  • tried Left Shift & Right click on the bin folder then select "open command window here". Once in command prompt you can update by typing: dcs_updater update. This did NOTHING.
  • Checking if the updater window is anywhere on either of my monitors, it is not.
  • I even tried to do the "restore application window" trick but the updater isn't even in my task bar or system tray to do that.
  • Tried using the start menu and updating DCS World OpenBeta using the list in the Eagle Dynamics Folder. Nogo...
  • Downloaded the latest version of DCS UPDATER and replaced the file in my bin folder. Nothing.....
  • tried running the updater with and without firewall and anti virus enabled. No change
  • Everything is being run "As Administrator"

Nothing has worked so far 1f641.png

This should not happen. Nor anything should require admin rights, unless it asks explicitly (like the updater does).

autoupdate_log.txt from the install folder

AND

autoupdate_templog.txt from AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta\

will be nice to have.

This *appears* to have fixed it...

- Disabled and unplugged my Ethernet adapter

- Shut down my PC

- Cut the main power on the PSU and bled the remaining power pressing the power button on my tower.

- Re-plugged my Ethernet cable into a different Ethernet port on my router

- powered my system back up and re-enabled my Ethernet adapter.

Checked my speeds and it certainly isn't my connection so I'm totally baffled as to why this happens.

A mystery...

Router port-specific firewall rules, may be?

None. I disabled everything I could think of, net wise. So far it hasn't re-occurred but we'll see.

Please look here. (game stalled on startup)

I don't think it has anything to do with full screen because I don't even get the black DCS into box with the version number. Nothing comes up unless I check task manager and see DCS updater.exe there...... doing nothing lol.

I'll try it though and see if it helps. BRB....

Try using the DCS Updater GUI Utility (This will not work for steam versions)

Once you setup this app and point it to your DCS install location.

Run the repair first. Then hit the update.

Great app, you can even install modules and look after many DCS versions.

Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. Link

SOLVED!

The issue was MSI Afterburner and I honestly don't know why.

After narrowing it down to MSI Afterburner I uninstalled and deleted all records of it form the registry using Windows 10 Manager Registry Cleaner (third party software). Then I downloaded and installed the latest Beta version of MSI Afterburner and DCS now updates normally. No other issues.
