**Heatblur Development Update - Q1 2017**

As mentioned previously, we’ve been working hard on the addition of some exciting new features for the Viggen, which will expand its’ capabilities in the game and offer up various new unique gameplay experiences.

Today we’re very proud to announce the upcoming road base system coming to the Viggen!

The Viggen is an aircraft that operated within a very unique doctrine, and we wanted to create an exciting way for you to experience this in our Viggen.

The road base system will allow you to place a group of units in the mission editor that will serve as your re-arm and refuel crew.

Landing your Viggen and taxiing close to these units will allow you to refuel and re-arm your aircraft.

Beyond this, once you have rearmed and refueled your units’ aircraft, you can order the ground crew to a preset backup landing point.

The units will pack up and drive to the set landing point and await your arrival from your second strike run.

Thus, you can keep your road base landing options open and dynamic, and keep the enemy on it’s toes. This feature is still WiP; and we’re working on the GUI that will allow you to pick and select weaponry and ground crew waypoints.

This feature will be featured in our upcoming campaigns for the Viggen.

Heatblur Simulations - DCS: AJS37 Viggen - ** DCS AJS-37 Mini-Update! **

We've been keeping our heads down and working diligently on the AJS37. We have some major features coming to this aircraft in the future which we'll talk about later, but for now we're focused on filling out the aircraft with content which will bring it to full completion and out of Early Access! There are also some very exciting announcements to come for the Viggen in the next couple of months, so stay tuned.

One of the main things we've been working on recently has been the Campaign. With the move to 2.5 and a new Caucasus, this has been a little odd process, but the mini-campaign is now complete and the main campaign is well underway. In addition to this, we're working on several more single and multiplayer missions for you to enjoy.

Content wise (aside from the big items mentioned above) upcoming are things like new liveries, new sounds (you might have noticed a new buffeting sound a few patches ago, just the first of many!) - texture and general graphics improvements, a IC friendly built in english cockpit, and an updated and finished manual. This is in addition to missing "features" of the aircraft, such as the RAT and other minor missing bits and pieces.

Of course, for the engineering and programming team, the main focus is currently on bugfixing, correcting issues in the FM and going through the backlog of various issues you've reported (and our testers have found). We consider the Viggen to be fairly stable and bug-free, but there is still plenty of work to be done. We've recently spent considerable time in implementing unit testing for the entire Viggen codebase to more efficiently find issues (especially in the FM)

For now, enjoy some screenshots of a heavily work in progress Viggen pilot coming for your in-cockpit view! High detail pass is still pending (and some inaccuracy issues and fixes).

AJS 37 Development Update

While most of your excitement currently revolves around the F-14; we’re still working hard on our post release AJS 37 roadmap.

We’ve recently unveiled some of the bigger, new, free features coming to the Viggen- such as the AI J-35 Draken. We’ve spent a lot of time building this aircraft to the same exacting standard as you’d expect from a flyable DCS module.

THUMB_Draken_01.jpg THUMB_Draken_02.jpg THUMB_Draken_03.jpg

The Draken is an integral part of what we consider to be our AJS 37 Content Push.

The Content push for the Viggen primarily revolves and focuses around the two campaigns that we are working on, which will ship for free for the module. Both campaigns will be set in the Caucasus region, and one campaign will be a short 6 mission “mini campaign”.

Of course, the aircraft itself will be no stranger to expansion and improvements, both in and outside the game. Some of the major changes coming to the Viggen are as follows:

  • Major and minor bugs still remaining.

  • New, J-35 Draken AI

  • An overhaul of the cockpit to take full advantage of PBR BRDF (see F-14 cockpit samples)

  • Completely new exterior soundset, accurately recreating the sound of the Volvo RM8 as mounted in the AJS 37 Viggen.

  • New Caucasus Mini-Campaign

  • New Caucasus Main-Campaign

  • New in-cockpit pilot

  • Manual imagery and content completion

  • New Liveries, including fictional and JA-37 liveries

  • More Training Missions

  • New Single Player Missions

  • More new, secret content!

With these changes and additions, we hope that the AJS 37 will be considered one of the best packages of content available for $59.99. One of our prime goals is to make sure that everything we build is filled to the brim with content. The F-14 will be no different, and we have some exciting announcements to make with regards to the Tomcat as well.

Some of you have expressed concern that the AJS 37 will fall to the wayside with the coming of the F-14. The opposite is actually true. We consider 2018 to be a year where we consolidate both of our products, iron out any remaining flaws in both, and make sure that we can move ahead with a clean and low-intensity (upkeep wise) slate.

Viggenites!

We're kicking off 2018 with some thunder and lightning!

We've spent some time working on quality of life features pertaining to the data cartridge system, mission planning and have fixed some longstanding visual issues.

As mentioned in our update, 2018 will together with the Tomcat be the "year of content" for the Viggen, which includes additions such as the J-35 Draken, two free Caucasus based campaigns, many new liveries, a complete exterior sound overhaul and more. The ultimate goal in the medium term is to mature the Viggen, consider it feature complete and major bug free and "release" it out of Beta status. :)

We're also currently working with Eagle Dynamics to provide an update to the BK90 cluster bomb dispenser.

Our current implementation for this particular weapon is a complex concoction of workarounds. With a future update, the BK-90 will work exactly as intended and have parity in both SP and MP.

Thanks for your support and for your warm Viggen recommendations we've been seeing. We really appreciate it!

We hope you're all enjoying your time hauling ass and practicing your future Forrestal and Kuznetsov attack runs.

Here's the latest:

DCS AJS-37 Viggen changelog

  • New feature! auto-generated data cartridge. Choosable in the kneeboard (# 6)

The Auto-generated data cartridge is a cartridge with five pre-programmed waypoints, where the third waypoint will be located on the first expected enemy units. DCS: AJS-37 Status Update

Just wanted to give you a quick heads-up on the Viggen and our current work.

This week we've squared away a major performance issue with the Viggen which was causing unstable frametimings. While your framerate (going by counter) is seemingly equal to other aircraft - the frametimes themselves could vary wildly by as much as 6ms from frame to frame. This could be "felt" if not entirely seen. We've now fixed this issue and frametime variance is down to expected values. This may have a bigger impact on those of you with lower end GPUs.

The biggest systems push of the last few weeks and months has been with correcting some of the aircraft's most egregious bugs; such as weapon delivery innacuracies. Some of these issues have cropped up as part of a change in the core DCS platform; which required us to go back and revise some of our modeling. The list of implemented fixes is not particularly long due to correction complexity, but should have significant impact on your enjoyment of the aircraft.

Once the next patch is ready to launch, we'll go into more depth and discuss our roadmap for Q2 of Viggen. Primary areas of focus for Q2 include the manual, new art, and new content.
