Official reponse on LITENING placement?

Reading through the multiple threads in the forums on the upcoming LITENING, I don't see an ED response in regards to if the LITENING will be restricted to the centerline station only or if it will be fitted to the left fuselage station as well.

false, litening can be mounted on the left cheek station.

Re-read my statement: the USMC never mounted it on the cheek station. The navy doesn't use the LITENING at all.

Other countries might have developed a mount for the cheek station but the US, specifically the USMC did not.

ED is modeling a USN/USMC Hornet, not a Spanish Hornet, not an Australian Hornet, not any other Hornet beside a USN/USMC Block 20 Charlie hornet, and the USN/USMC never mounted the LITENING pod on the cheek stations.

Yes, thank you.

The argument and confusion is already in place and therefore the need for an official response from ED.

Currently, they are replicating a 2006 US Navy Hornet but with the change to now include the LITENING, is ED now making a USMC Hornet because there are differences.

From the last Hornet Mini-Update, it looks like work on implementing the LITENING has not started yet so it could still be a ways off, making the ATFLIR implementation even further out.

It would be unrealistic to mount LITENING on station 4 for a lot 20 USN/USMC hornet, don't see any argument. It is what it is, like gekoiq said.

ED has already stated multiple times which country, version, lot#, OFP, and time period the sim covers.

Likely Centerline only,

Cheek station was used with Export Airframes w/ a New Cheek Adapter.

Since this Adapter is not modeled in DCS currently, it's likely to be Centerline only.

However more details will likely be announced when the LITENING is closer to hitting open beta.

Thank you for the response. Makes sense and is what I thought but was just looking for some official word.

Can Hornet land on carrier with LITENING on central station? Or its used when aircraft operate from airfields only?

It is used by the USMC when operating from airfields, but AFAIK this is not because of difficulties with carrier landings, but because of logistical reasons. On the ship the USMC shares the logistics with the Navy which uses the ATFLIR.

From what I understood, the litening cannot sustain the usual impact which comes with landing on the deck

Isn't the Hornet landed in the same way on airfields as it is on carriers in US service?

Canada use Sniper, Switzerland use ATFLIR.

I believe so, so I think it's probably the longitudinal acceleration of cat shots/traps that's the issue.

I don't think there was a technical issue. IIRC the reason why the USMC uses the ATFLIR when operating from carriers is due to the shared logistics with the Navy aboard the ship.

I think that wont be technical issue also. They share the logistics. Just for example, central fuel tank is much bigger than LITENING, but this isnt a problem to land on carrier.

I just found the source again on which I based my statement, that there are no technical problems with carrier operations in regards to the LITENING: https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a498288.pdf

It just comes down to keeping commonality with Navy Hornets aboard carriers.

I really do not care if it’s ‘unrealistic’ to have litening on the cheek. It’s an awesome stepping stone to ATFLIR and I’d prefer to get practice with it located on the cheek.

If you’ve got hyper-realism issues just wait for ATFLIR.

ED will probably favor realism over your desire to use it as stepping stone for the ATFLIR. Im not sure where the hyper-realism thing comes from, nobody in this thread seems to be suffering from it.

For now, ED is modelling a US Lot 20 (USN Originally, but USMC features as well).

There are no export specific features (Lights, Rebuilt Wing Mechanisms, rebuilt Nose Gear, etc), So I wouldnt expect anything about new Pod Adapters, just to curb expectations.

ie Dont blow a gasket when it hits OB and its not cheek mountable, because no one stated it was going to be, and none of the planned features list would imply it would be either.

Centerline only. The LITENING was never mounted anywhere else beside centerline on USMC aircraft and never used at all on USN aircraft.

nothing to see here these are USMC Hornets and that is not a litening pod on station 4.
