Ouch! VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base needs a base plate

Note: The VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base requires mounting and is not suitable for desktop use. Mounting must be done with the included u-bracket to ensure safe operation.

I previously ordered the throttle which comes with holes to screw down. It didn't occur to me that the stick base wouldn't have similar holes to floor mount. Ordering the base plate with my order would be no big deal but now it's going to cost $50 with the shipping. I guess it's my fault for misunderstanding the warning.

The baseplate for the MT-50 transfers the load from the gimbal to the case and case screws.

IMO the U bracket is the better option for mounting the base as it is directly connected to the gimbal.

If you have some simple tools, you could make your own floor to U bracket mount.

Mk I, with L-brackets, and Mk II, with a hacked up WarBRD desk mount. Unfortunately adapting my Mk II design to a Virpil accessory base plate won't be the easiest affair, since there is no metal directly under the u-bracket that you could drop a bolt straight down to.

This unforgiveable oversight will, of course, be fixed in the Mongoose-T50CM2 base plate which will, of course, be announced the day after your previous Virpil order ships.

  • 4 weeks later...

The T-50 isn't meant to be mounted on top of the desk, it's too high for that.

I'm using the deskmount from Monstertech (Germany) which puts the grip at the right (adjustable) height for me. A bit expensive, but solid as a rock.

IMO, they should include the bracket with every base and charge accordingly to avoid not having this mounting option. Adding $10 for the bracket at these prices isn't a deal-breaker.
