AJS-37 Development Update

Dear All,

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been focusing on some key in-depth improvements to the Viggen which are not readily apparent.

Much focus has been spent on the rewriting of certain systems and the cleanup of memory states. These will help improve overall module stability as well as allow us to properly reset the aircraft to it’s default states on respawn, repair and rearms. One of the unfortunate side-effects of this development was that we introduced a crashing issue with certain subsystems on aircraft respawn or reset. We’ve worked diligently to fix these as quick as possible, but to our great dismay you will have experienced them for the past couple of weeks. A patch should launch next wednesday with these fixes implemented. We’re sincerely sorry for introducing this issue!

We’ve also spent considerable time and focus on rewriting and improving our sidewinder seeker code, in conjunction with making the swedish sidewinder variants appropriately effective. You should see significant improvements across the entire gamut of this weapon subsystem, and less annoying edge-cases where you are unable to distribute MiG parts when in prime position to do so.

An item that has been backlogged due to mission work and is now close to being complete is the finalization of the flight manual. While we’re still improving one section of this document, and there are still some improvements to be made, we’re happy to be able to share with you our current release candidate of this document. Grab it and enjoy! Feedback is welcome as always.

Other areas of focus have been in implementing some of the most commonly requested and long overdue features: working, realtime reflective mirrors, overhauling night lighting, and introducing the canopy raindrop feature for the Viggen, amongst other things.

The full changelog for the past 1-2 patches is as follows:

  • Fixed crashing issue on aircraft re-initialization (respawn, refly)

  • Fixed crashing issue due to ELINT page dump

  • Fixed crashing issue due to Radar texture memory issues

  • Reworked overall Sidewinder seeker behaviour.

  • Fixed gunsight hysteresis

  • Rocket sight corrected for shallow dives

  • Fix to horizontal velocity sight calculations

  • Corrected erroneous exterior light intensities

  • Adjusted hubcap metalness & roughness for correct specularity response

  • Reexported all textures with corrected brightness levels for better dds compression

  • Overhauled night lighting

  • Corrected normal tangentspace issues due to UV borders

  • Removed red blotches in cockpit gauge glass reflections

  • Added wheel brake axis binding

  • Fuel not in X-Tank when spawning on Runway fixed

  • Completed first release candidate of final manual

  • Left horizontal panel needles are now properly backlit

  • Added realtime lighting to FLI ball for better visibility

  • Significantly improved visual quality of glareshield area in external model

We’re speeding fast towards fall, and our goal is and will remain to make sure the Viggen is complete and out of early access this year.

That means feature complete, stable and held in high regard by all. Thanks for your patience on this journey and we hope you’ll continue to have faith in us as we move towards the completion of the Viggen, Tomcat and all of the exciting things beyond.

Sincerely,

HB Viggen Team

Cobra, the embedded images in your posting are 404 File not found. That also results in the PDF Link to be not clickable.

Seems to work fine now :)

Our server doesn't get much traffic - it probably died temporarily. :(

Awesome! Looks like I picked the perfect time to purchase this module.

Will wait for the patch - but am already getting myself familiarized with the plane, manual is great help :) Will be printing it out tomorrow - what section are you still updating?

Also, my home cockpit was heading towards 'A-10' but I have a feeling that I'll be exploring Viggen also as an option. 'Exploring' - as in 'already ordered necessary stuff for first Viggen panel (data panel)' :D

Thanks a lot, even tough I have already learned the Viggen (hopefully :) ), the Manual is really important to me, as it reprsent almost the only english language reference available for this aircraft.

One question: does the "cleanup of memory states" improve the replay of viggen’s track files ?

Best regards,

Yes, replay fidelity has improved significantly. From what I’ve seen there seems to be mostly divergence when on the ground now, like when using wheel brakes.

All this is amazing!

Thanks for the highly welcome update.

I think the module is now in a good shape, and we can really "work" with that machine. To really understand the Viggen somebody needs time, and this is where I have to say: REALLY GREAT MODULE! Thanks guys for making the Viggen accessible to personal computers!

Nice! Is there some news about the ground radar showing trees in white? It's a major problem for ground/land attacks. Thanks! :)

Feedback is welcome as always.

Can you ad an rotary axis for RWR volume?

And other axis for rotary-knobs in the cockpit?

I'm also wondering what happened to this, since you didn't mention it:

Not only are we shipping brand new AI units with the aircraft, but also two campaigns in the Caucasus and we have quite a few more tricks up our sleeve.

Let's face it, not many people care about the AI Draken or the 2 mini campaigns. As they don't actually add anything to the Viggen :music_whistling:.

So what about quite a few more tricks up our sleeve?
