Why Christen Eagle II?

Hmm, how did ED create its WWII modules without making a civilian prop plane first?? I don't understand how something like that could be possible :^)

ISTR that is how we got the TF51/P51, as it was an internal development tool for ED that they released to us.

Defended where? On a aerobatic server?? Jz why so serious?

That's my point really, the GEII would require special servers, but an unarmed military plane would just require an escort.

I'm disappointed that we're only getting a measly aerobatics biplane. I think what DCS needs is more common stuff like sailplanes and powered hang gliders. Throw in a Cessna and Cub right in there along with F-14s and we're golden. Judging from the positive responses, the potential is here.

Just imagine a squadron of Su-27s pulling gliders and dropping them right in the middle of the fight! Perhaps we can have multiplayer missions where you can chase player controlled Cessnas pretending to be drug smugglers and blowing them up before they make it to the border! Now that's the real stuff we need in Digital Combat Simulator.

I applaud M3 for making this easy tough decision and bring variety to DCS.

here is a first hand account.

I like aerobatics and certainly this will be a blast. If its all about combat it would be boring. Scenic flights are great.

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

I don't know if you missed it either, but development of the Mig-23 and 27 is confirmed as of a few days ago.

Got a source for that?

On topic:

Civvie planes were always going to come to DCS eventually anyway. There's only a finite amount of planes that 3rd parties can make.

It requires aerobatic servers. Which we have plenty of. No escort nor anything to defend it.

TBH i don't think anyone here is against the product however i think you guys did the wrong thing in hyping it up, esp when you know everyone here is craving for high fidelity military aircraft (jets, props, heils, etc) so all the negative publicity and feedback you got is on you.

Having said that, yes DCS can be used for other types of a/c ie. SAR, fire fighting, civ, etc. Its a sandbox after all.

It is a great plane and I may end up purchasing it, but the reason I came to DCS World in the first place was the announcement of the MiG-21bis. I will not even think about buying this until the MiG-21 is stable and finished correctly (a far cry from the original announcement of a module that would need no beta because it would be so complete and correct on initial release).

The next aircraft I expected from Leatherneck was an F4U-1. I love the Christen Eagle, but I would gladly take and F4U-1 and AI A6Ms over a stunt biplane.

But I could see myself really loving the Christen Eagle if DCS World supports formation/stunt flying to the extent of having mission or even campaigns where you perform airshows over a range of locations and have some way of scoring your ability to fly formation with the lead or for correctly flying the required pattern as the lead.

I 100% support this. It opens the market to more folks with aspirations outside of learning complex aircraft in a great sim. The more folks who use and invest in DCS and it’s modules the more focus, time, and effort will go into DCS and it’s third party developers. If we include aviators of all types it we all benefit! I’d fly a Cessna 208 in a heart beat in DCS!

I'm not sure whether you are serious or it's sarcasm, but to have some glider in dcs would be amazing. Long time ago, when we only had p51 and Dora in dcs ww2 stable, I said that one day I would love to see Me163 Komet and that was mostly for it's unique and dangerous/volatile propulsion and that it was a glider when returning home. If you flew gliders in the stock fsx, you know it has very little in common with the real thing (i don't want to trash its fm, weather effects/thermals and so on, it's old platform after all and one can't expect miracles - there are mods that help with it, but still...it is what it is). So one day, hopefully we would get something like Komet.

Regarding CE2, I too was surprised with the announcement but aerobatic biplane is pretty neat addition imo. From what I understand, it's similar to Pitts Special and that thing is wild! We had one here at our airport and it was always a great joy to watch those figures in the air. Just the very thought to perhaps own something like this one day...dreams!

My only wish regarding DCS CE2 would be that it would bring something extra to the table too, or added value if you will...be it aerobatic tutorial / campaign made by pros in the field (something like aerobatic school if you will), scoring system or grades, detailed study manual, etc. The potential is there imo and this module actually begs for it. Anyway, I wish best of luck & success to M3 with CE2!

P.S. I've noticed that it mentions advanced flight model. Is there no longer external flight model? Or is is everything that is not ED's/Belsimtek's PFM automatically an AFM? Cheers!

Nothing but semantics here. Any FM produced by a 3rd party is an EFM. What the EFM equates to can be described by referencing ED's internal definitions of SFM, AFM, AFM+, and PFM.

Personally, I would think that a proper aerobatic aircraft would require a PFM level flight model to be a quality aircraft. By describing it only as an AFM tells me that they are cutting corners.
