Own flight Wingmen vs Created Wingmen

Hey good Pilots, I’m a bit confused about this whole Wingmen thing. Yes I worked out the triggers for delaying them on the Ramp and I knocked up a pretty cool little mission with JTAC tasking and goals and other stuff but I’m perplexed. I was up for ages last night tryin to figure it out and I think my mission became corrupted as both WM were just sitting there after I started rolling as I’ve been constantly “saving as” over missions or maybe I made an error somewhere, not sure but disappointingly I scrubbed the whole thing and going to start from scratch. I fly A-10C and only build SP missions but I’m not sure which is better, wingmen I add from own flight or Wingmen I add as individual flights like from the far left tab. What is the reason for both being available? And when I add WM from my flight they can’t seem to be given WP flight plans, is this correct? And I also noticed sometimes the “uncontrolled” box was not available. Anyway I’m pretty muddled with this Wingmen stuff and just when I thought I had it. Basically all I’m after is creating a cool little mission with a few Wingmen to help with ground targets and all of us working as a team ( pref Flying Tigers :-) to accomplish our goals and I’m pretty sure I just use WM I add from my own flight to do this. Maybe I’m looking too deep into this whole thing, anyway, any tips or advice regarding this will be much appreciated. Cheers, apologies for the long post.

Planes you add via "Unit 1 of X" buttons are part of your own flight. You can change their formation, assign specific targets using your SPI, and other functions using the radio menu. They do not have their own waypoints because you are in charge of their behavior at all times.

Additional flights are not technically your wingmen, even if you use them as such. They will perform their mission as programmed but unless you do a lot of extra work you have no influence on their behavior.

Additional flights are there for what I would assume are obvious reasons: F-16s to perform SEAD before your flight hits armored targets. A CAP flight to provide escort. A tanker for aerial refueling. A second element of A10s to attack a different area. The only limit is your imagination.

That’s making sense now, thanks very much. So, wingmen in my flight as you said I’m in charge of and they kinda just follow me and respond to my commands and these wingmen will invariably from Ramp depart when I do yea, like I’m not having to create a delayed start trigger for them or do they start rolling at mission start time? And wingmen I place I can assign flight plans and tasks like softening up areas before my team goes in yes? It’s becoming clearer now ty ffff, owe you big time man.

Correct, members of your own flight will remain parked until you start rolling.

Thanks a bunch Fee, awesome as always!
