WHY?

I also think that DCS is becoming much more than a "combat" simulator. Crimea is and Nevada always was a peacetime scenario, and with straight of Hormus this makes it 3/4. The level of simulation and the visuals are arguably unparalleled. So in a way more civilian planes and features could bring over lots of players who were sort of deterred by "that combat sim with Russian jets". Those people may not like the idea to be forced into combat, but it's huge to fly aircraft in the first place and always have the option to hop on to combat that is not just tacked on.

I do stress though that it should be marketed right, and a pilot training campaign should also be produced for the Yak. To have a situation like with the L-39 where you have arguable the most fantastic jet trainer in the digital flight sim world and no training campaign to buy leaves a bit of a sour taste. And though it's not the end of the world, it will not pull over many people who have yet to install DCS.

Ah and btw, even military sims have developed such ideas. Arma 3 has a campaign Laws Of War that deals with a humanitarian faction removing mines.

The only thing I hope doesnt happen is removing damage models for civilian aircraft. Im sure Cessna doesn't want to people to see a 172 on fire plunging to certain death and riddled with bullet holes... I like civil and military aircraft but they all need damage models.

This "combat" name matter has been beaten to death already. Let this topic die. The Yak-52 is being made and will be released. Get used to it.

I'll buy :

МиГ-23МЛД & МЛА МиГ-27К МиГ-25 Mirage III F-4E any IJ plane 1950' Korea Dynamic campaign module

what I'd like to see is a neutral coalition that civilian aircraft could be assigned to...

Cheers.

I know I personally came over here for the A-10C and dropping bombs on stuff... so the thought of civilian aircraft really never came to me, but lately, when you look at the quality of the FMs and everything else in the sim, I can understand why it is attracting contracts outside the military.

Exactly!

DCS is an evolving beast. Those who sees only combat... feel free to fight. Those who enjoy the flight will benefit on any civilian airplane which will appear. Both guys can fly even together, escorting Airforce 1 :D, contacting the tower, prioritizing things.... c'mon people, get out from your narrow buble and let things evolve.

Yup, as already stated it was originally a private contract, not for DCS World. ED obtained the right to use it in DCS World, so we get the Yak-52. If you are not interested in it you can pick up a number of combat aircraft already available in DCS, not to mention the F/A-18C which should hold enough combat for all your combat needs.

Fully agree. With how nice the scenery is looking now, there is definitely an argument for "recreational" flying. Of course, a full set of Navaids and civilian AI traffic would be great too :D

Oh, and let's not forget, if there is a sim today that can do an aerobatic-prop-driven airplane justice, it's DCS. Torque rolls and gyroscopic maneuvers have never been properly replicated by any sim, maybe only X-plane got close, but DCS is unparalleled in the FM department.

I have to stick to my guns and say where we are at now is not what I expect or where I had anticipated DCS World going.

While I understand your concerns in principle, I think you're being a little melodramatic.

The "Combat" part of DCS is looking better than ever. Never have we had more modern combat aircraft, more maps, more content, and there's so much great stuff on the roadmap. When I got back into flight-simming and signed up for this forum only a few short years ago in 2013, there were only two high-fidelity modern combat modules (the A-10c and Ka-50).

Just take a step back and look at what we have now.

And extreme high-end modules like the Hornet and the Tomcat are yet to come.

You're implying DCS is somehow steering away from combat and this just isn't the case.

And while I would understand your concerns more if it were about the Christen Eagle, I find it a little odd that it's in reference to the Yak-52. The Yak-52 is a military aircraft that fits right into the post-Vietnam era that you described (first flight in 1976). It is used to train for combat aircraft.

DCS pushes for maximum realism and therefore it makes sense to have realistic training options for becoming a combat pilot.

So in short, the trend you're fearing isn't really a trend and the Yak-52 fits perfectly into the context of a combat simulator.
