My first campaign using Dynamic Campaign Engine by MBot.

Operation Red Bear. Ver 0.3

Download here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/n8n3v97husziguk/Operation%20Red%20Bear.zip?dl=0

Changelog:

ver 0.2 - removed fuel tanks as targets, since they won´t stay destroyed for some reason.

ver 0.3 - SU30 SEAD's are now armed with both laser guided missiles and anti-radiaton missiles.

ver 0.4 - Alot of small changes, please see the readme.

If you have install problems, please read the "Nordic Battle" thread for some possible solutions: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188167&page=3

There are probably alot of bugs, so see this as a test version.

Am trying this this morning..but on the first mission I'm getting about 1 FPS - did I set something up wrong or do I just need to way dial back my graphics to get it smooth? EDIT - switched my properties to medium and now getting better FPS. Probably just all the units on the map..can't wait to give it a whirl..!

Hey Christofer I tried your camoaign. Afrer several tries on the first mission I also survived mission nr 2. In both missions my target was EWR 1. On both missions I got SEAD support from a flight of su30's. On both missions they did not engage the SA3 site that was near the rsrget area. Nor did they engage an SA8 Gecko.

I defitly enjoyed the atmosphere of the missions though. Keep um coming!!!

Thanks. I don´t now why they don´t engage. I have also noticed that the SEAD flights doesn´t do much to help, but I have seen them fire missiles at SAMs, when the SAM itself is the main target. I have updated the campaign and now the SEAD also have laser guided missiles so they can engage non radar targets, like missile launchers. I have no idea if they will.

I too will give it a try with the updates. I was at the point of running my own SEAD mission before the assigned mission just to give myself a better than 20% chance. (I also asked the base commander to cashier those SU30 pilots.)

Update July 8/17: Big improvement. Most SAM's destroyed and only AAA left makes it a fun mission.

I'm trying to run through this right now and am having similar issues. In the first mission (strike against ERW1), all Su-27 escorts and Su-30 SEAD were destroyed without attacking any of the SAMs. I managed to kill the ERW site by staying low and staying out of SAM range when possible, but it took a few tries.

In the second mission, I have no Su-30 SEAD cover (presumably because the first flight was destroyed), and my Su-27 escorts destroyed one MiG but ran off afterward, leaving the other to attack my strike flight. Not easy to deal with in the dark with no active radar.

I worked through the ERW2 strike and the DEAD SA3 strike missions, although the friendly AI units are faring very poorly. The Su-27s do OK defending against MiGs, but aren't fantastic at clearing them, and none of the AI units are doing well against SAMs. The Su-30s sometimes manage to kill one radar installation between them, but never seem to make it back to base. The DEAD SA3 strike mission killed all of my escorts and two of my wingmen:(

Unfortunately my wingmen are almost useless as well. If I can get a shkval lock on a target, I can order them to attack with some semblance of reliability, but otherwise they're idiots.

I've also noticed that the default load outs for the Su-25Ts are kind of trash. FAB-500's against a SAM site protected by AAA? No thanks. Been doing OK with Kh-58s, Kh-25MPs, and Vikhrs.

All that said, I'm still having fun with this campaign :) hopefully constructive criticism is useful for future incarnations.

Fought my way up to Mission 7 [destroy EWR4] now, without the update (can I update in the middle of campaign progress?).

Have to say, this mission is way under-equipped. If one of my (now dead) wingmen hadn't previously taken out the Patriot radar sitting next to the target, it would be near impossible. As is, I'm not certain how I'm going to get past a flight of F-16's and an SA-8 installation at the air field with only two Su-27's for cover that aren't doing an effective job against the F-16's. Those AMRAAMs are brutal, and flying low (15m) with ECMs doesn't seem to matter much to the F-16s.

I tried to come in through the mountains to the North, which seems a much safer way to perform a strike than from open ocean, but there are F-16's in the valley to the Northwest of the mountains that I can't get past either, and the Mission Planner won't let me reroute the Su-27's to try to cover me through that route.

*sigh* I'll give it another go tonight and see what I can come up with.

DCE Campaigns are not scripted missions ;) Missions are randomly generated (not completely randomly) so if you failed a mission you can play the campaign further. What were destroyed will stay destroyed so if you think you mission is nearly impossible and if you want to stay alive do you best and go back to base waiting for a better opportunity to destroy the target :thumbup: Next time your escort will be better or enemy fighters will be far away ;)

Except for technical reasons (track IR, joystick, ...) I always answer Y to the next mission generation.

If you want to play with the same alive pilot all the campaign you can generate a new mission with the "skip mission.bat" ;)

My two cents :)

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind.

That said, it would really be nice if the mission planner let me change routes for my escorts. A long, safe flight through the mountains is preferable to a shorter flight trying to attack an SA-8 and EWR from open ocean.

I agree with you. I think it's a DCS mission planner limitation ...

I see that since v0.4, that the Mig-15 module is required. Will I be stuck with 0.3 version? Thanks for your work on the campaign customization.

LP

modules:

F5-E / A4-E / A-10A / AJS-37 / SA-342 / UH-1H / Ka-50 / Mi-8 / CA

would buy:

OH-58 /AH-64A / AH-1 / Sepecat Jaguar / F-111

Ok, strange.

I unzipped the Operation Red Bear_first.miz from the 0.4 download and opened the mission file, and the first section of the lua says:

mission = {
   ['requiredModules'] = {
       ['MiG-15bis AI by Eagle Dynamics'] = 'MiG-15bis AI by Eagle Dynamics',
   },

I just re-downloaded the zip from your dropbox, to make sure, and it still is the same.

Strange that is says "AI" in the module name...

EDIT: I think something is weird in 1.5.7 with the Mig-15bis. If I create a new mission with a Mig-15bis and run it, it turns into a Mig21, and when I go back to the editor, mig15bis is no longer in the list of planes.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

Try to download it again. Yeah, something must be strange with the 1.5.7

There was a group of parked Mig-15 as a ground target (static objects), but they have been there since the beginning. I have removed these now. I don´t own Mig-15, but I can still fly the mission.

I tried the first mission and I struggled to even identify the EWR Then got shot down. What is the EWR a building, vehicle or something else?

Sorry I'm a mega nooob

It's probably a vehicle. There are several EWR vehicles in DCS- you can view them in the 'air defense' section of the encyclopedia if you want. Generally speaking you should look for a vehicle with a disproportionately large antenna array or dish mounted on top.
