so far the same for me, quick and clean upgrade.

I haven't noticed the bigger footprint tbh, I actually have more space free than before, after deleting 1803, astonishing but also welcome.

What the ??????????

I just checked for undates and it said I had one and started to download it. It took a while and I a fast download speed. I assumed it was the new update because I get automatic updates

Anyway, it installed and I checked to see if I had 1903. It says I still have 1809. I checked for new updates and it said I was up to date. Eh?

I have Win 10 pro. Would that make a difference?

It's a controlled rollout. So not everyone gets it at the same time. If you want, you can go the MS site and download the 1903 Update assistant and kick it off manually.

I've never noticed much of any difference with any of the absolutely massive number of updates I've installed in Windows 10 over the time I've been using it.

Can't tell the difference between a 'raw' OS install and the fully updated version, which takes me a dog's age to download and install, even with cable Internet.

Boot times, gaming performance (framerates), loading times, etc. etc. etc. it's all the same. Windows works exactly the same. Nothing better, nothing worse. No tendency to get more or fewer virus infections. No tendency for any app or game to crash more or less often than it ever did. No difference in anything at all--whatsoever.

Oh well :D

Yes, I just figured that out. I did get an update today. It must have been the last one for 1809 that I never got.

I'll just wait until 1903 shows up on it's own.

Thanks

Search for "windows media creation tool". Run it an then you can 'force' your pc to update to the newest version. :smartass:

Like you, I've noticed the same "gaming" performances with the different win 10 versions.

But "applications" or "desktop" performances, using Realbench benchmark, did change with versions. The more impacted were encoding and heavy multitasking.

win 10 1709 was ok as a reference (no patches spectre/meltdown) - 130000 +/- 2000 pts benchmark

win 10 1803 was bad / a good 10% regression - 116000 +/- 2000 pts benchmark

win 10 1809 recovered perf - 130000 +/- 2000 pts benchmark

actual win 10 1903 performs better - 134000 +/- 2000 pts benchmark

For what it Worth (gaming perf remains about the same).

I just looked at the 1903 features. It has nothing new that I need.

Everything runs smooth now. I don't want to mess with it.

Thanks

at some point you'll get force fed it... can't hold the Borg at bay too long.... ;)

I forced my Windows 10 update to 1903 to take advantage of the flashlight feature for my window mix reality headset (Odyssey +)

The update has been working with no issues but my SSD space has severely reduced.

Perhaps due to backup files that Windows keeps around for a while, to make sure you can roll back if issues arise.

They are stored in the "Windows.old" folder, and some other locations.

And the Internet collective thanks you. I keep saying it, but the last Wannacry malware spread because of unpatched Win 7 OS.

I know it's fashionable to bash Microsoft. But let's give credit where credit is due. Win10 is a far superior experience than Vista. To me, it's similar to the Win2K jump. Clean efficient and productive.

O365 subscription is a damn good deal for $95/year USD.

But most importantly, it allows me to fly in DCS and enjoy VR! :D

It looks like they learned their lesson going to (presumably) agile development (not related to speed as much as people think it is). And the patch cycle seems to have focused on reducing pain for the end user.

And I'm dying to try built-in Linux that's coming.

business users are pushing back on the rapid Win/Serv update cycle. for example, most companies are still running the 2017 or april 2018 update.

last i heard msft is going to slow things down a tad and focus more on stability than features.
