Recording full 16:9 aspect ratio in VR

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have the HP Reverb and I was wondering if there is any way to record DCS in full screen on my monitor 16:9 aspect ratio without any distortion.

I realize I can change from the regular "square" to full screen with Alt+Enter, however this greatly distorts the image.

This guy:

Seems to have a nice clear and undistorted image with 16:9 aspect ratio, any ideas how he might've done it?

Thanks in advance!

No help here but you could ask in the Input and Output section, subforum VR.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

if this is what you're after, then it's OBS that I used.

HTH

Exactly!, mind explaining how to set up the game? And how you got a nice 16:9 image like that?

Also, are you using the optimization mod there?

I think that's where I started yes

run OBS as admin(very important!), v25.0.8

settings-output-recording

output mode advanced

recording format mp4

encoder NVIDIA NVENC H.264 (new)

rate control VBR

bitrate 100000kbps

max bitrate 200000kbps

preset quality

profile high

GPU 0

max b-frames 2

settings-video

base (canvas) resolution 2560x1440

output 2560x1440

downscale filter bicubic(sharpened scaling, 16 samples)

common fps value 60

you then set up your scene, add your source(game capture)

mode capture specific window

window DCS.exe

test it out, there will be some frame cropping, you can position the captured output in the OBS frame to your liking.

these setting work for me, your mileage may vary

my PD is now at 1.0 for other reasons, no optimization mod, but I think the PD at the time of that clip I posted was up at around 1.4

oh and for recording, I have voice commands which I can start and stop the recording, you don't want to leave it recording for very long due to file size/disk space, keep clips short

Perfect, thanks timbob. Got it working.

PD I have to keep at 1.0, with the reverb, running 125% SS on Steam VR, any increase in PD in game starts to destroy frames.

But the quality still came out great!
