3DS Max Version for EDM plugin

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

I'm about to pull the trigger on the purchase of 3DS Max to be able to work on the module I'm dreaming of having in DCS (I know.. Long road ahead of me...).

Question is, would 3DS Max 2020 work with the EDM export plugin? Do I need an earlier version?

Thanks!

The MIRAGE is as invulnerable to the opponent's hits as the mirage is unreachable to the desert traveler.

Thank you for the replies, indeed I bought a yearly subscription and installed 2017 last night and the latest EDM plugin let me chose between 2014, 2016 and 2017.

2017 has issues with the plugin.

When multiple ED ArgBase animations are created, 2 or more will animate while another is playing.

Export is still ok though. If one does not mind the animation quirks, 2017 is ok to use.

I use 2016.

Hi folks,

Is Max 2016 still the best way to go for DCS? Also is 2017 still the latest version that works?

I have a student license for 2018 and 2020 and its too late for me to pick up a legit 2016/2017 version

Hello guys,
I am using 3d max 2018. The plugin, however, doesn't let me choose this one. Is there any way to have the plugin working in 3d max 2018, like manual installation or something? Any clues or a workaround? I know that there must be a reason the plugin doesn't want to go with 2018, but... oh well, sometimes it's just a matter of small glitch or imperfection (I am willing to accept) that is not passing the ED's QA, I guess...

2018 is when Autodesk revamped their code.  During this time ED had been rewriting the plugin code as well.  It wasn't until 2019 or 2020 when the plugin became avail for those versions, thus 2018 never had a plugin built for it.

You'll need to upgrade or downgrade unfortunately.....or try using Blender and the unofficial plugin.
