How far along is the DCS: F-16C?

The F-16 video shows the radar scanning in RWS mode and the HSD page with working waypoints entered..

Honestly, I suspect one of the reasons the Hornet progress has been so slow is because they are simultaneously implementing systems into the Viper.

This is probably accurate. I think it was Wags a while back who mentioned that a lot of the Hornet systems are going to make the Falcon easier to develop.

You must be missed some of these :

from Matt himself ".....Earlier, we focused on tasks with faster turnarounds, but these current tasks are taking longer. Development of the Hornet has certainly NOT slowed down, rather, it’s simply shifted to tasks with longer development periods.

You are jumping to conclusions here.

The team that is working on the Hornet is different from the team working on the Viper.

The reason the Hornet progress has been slower is because the low hanging fruit has been plucked, and the only things left are very complex and difficult.

I read some of the Hornet team moved to the Viper. I'm not sure where it was now but I did read it.

This is the way I understand it as well. It seems that ED staff is very limited and staff is more or less reallocated to different tasks/modules as needed. An example of this would be the Hornet JSOW delay due to those working on the Hornet being used for the Fw 190A-8 release.

ED seems be doing the best they can with what they have. All we can do is hope that they are able to hire more staff from the financial support they receive from the new modules.

JSOW was delayed because the JSOW wasn't ready, internal testers have been busy on the Anton, but Hornet Devs, Anton has its own dev team.

Mostly art guys, working on model, textures, cockpit functionality, things like that.

My goodness, I sure hope that isn't the case. The F-16 is projected to be released in 4-5 months...unless the flight model and systems are finished (are they?), I would think that there would be ED staff assigned to those as a priority since they are the most complex and time consuming.

If all that is left is the model, textures, and cockpit functionality, then the F-16 is much further along than I thought!

You talked about people that have moved off the Hornet, not the ones that might be working on both or only the Hornet. You guys are really fired up today... can't win.

My apologies...did not mean to come off as "fired up." You guys can win. We are just trying to understand how ED works and how the modules that we invest in and support are being developed. Personally, I want to make sure that F-16 stays on track for an early autumn release and hope that ED is doing the same.

I purchased the Hornet, but the F-16 is my dream aircraft. I pre-purchased immediately and I am all in, so I closely follow how the F-16 is being developed and how ED is handling it.

Thanks NineLine for being active in the discussion. Never take my posts personally, I am on your side!

The Hornet guys that were primarily moved to the F-16 are no longer needed on the Hornet due to that portion being complete. Because the Hornet FM is complete and only needs occasional updates due to new weapons and equipment, it makes more sense for them to be moved to a project that can use them to 100% potential.

You don't have a 3d modeler/texture guy working on avionics coding.

Is the FM done? Lex thinks the Hornet has too much drag and the engines respond too slow.

I think that's what he said. My memory could be failing me again.

Hmm I wonder if that is related to the F-14 having too much drag as well at the moment....a common baseline ED factor?

I don't know Lex's current thoughts, but I don't think the FM is marked complete yet, but it's probably pretty close, close enough that the FM guys could be working on the Viper already.

A suspicion is not a conclusion..

And despite what has been said about only art work and the FM guys working on the F-16, its radar was on and scanning and the HSD was on with waypoints.

And yes, some hornet systems are advanced and will take time. But the Hornet radar is still missing basic features in RWS, like color button, spotlight search, LTWS completion, and MSI.

Meanwhile F-16 is supposed to launch with RWS and TWS out the door.

IIRC he commented for the earlier version of the Hornet not the newest one.

It's only reasonable that once RWS and TWS are fully fleshed out for the Hornet, they will be able to put them into the Viper quickly.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

RE: F-16 Release Date

LOL. the "what autumn" astrological, Gregorian calendar, Lunar calendar, the pagan calendar, the Vernal equinox? yada yada yada. LOL

PTSD it is. In the meantime, I'll sick back and enjoy the F18/14, then wait for the A10 update, desperately pray the Huey will get some shader love, and by then, the F16 should be out.

How about giving the guy a break? out of all the forums for the various flight simulators out there. I swear a lot of you guys here on DCS forums have always got some smartA** sh** to say. In the military, I was taught that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. So if you have nothing positive to contribute to the conversation do the rest of us a favor. Shut the hell up. Thank you.

Harlikwin is well aware of what happened on the F14 thread. People literally discussing what spring was. It's an inside joke. You were also taught not to assume, no? It was a joke about all the people who tied themselves into a knot trying to figure out what Heatblur meant when they said "out by end of spring"

I wasn't replying to the OP who asked, I was just joining in on the "PTSD" from the F14 experience by Harlikwin. It was meant in jest and you took it as an insult to the OP. I should have used an emoji to make it clear that it was in jest.
