What are the chances we will see a B-17 DLC some day?

I would love to see a b-17 addon. IVe been waiting for a decent b-17 sim for ages Since The mighty eight but nobody really has ever really done it so far. Accusims b-17 for flight simulator is Nice but offers no real combat opps. War thunder is to arcady And doesnt even have bomber cockpits after 2 years , not to mention any real realistic bomber ops. Is ED up for The job? The b-17 sure deserves a decent combatsim

Respectfully, who has more than a few hundred hours flying a virtual B-17 in any sim/game? It has to get old quickly, flying a milk truck like that, which mostly just flies straight-and-level over long distances. Dogfighting in fighters is complex enough that plenty of people rack up thousands of v-hours, but flying a bomber?

I don't mean to step on anyone's toes; really, I don't. But it really always struck me as comparatively whimsical, these wishes for a playable bomber. It'd take much more work to create than a fighter (because of all of the manned positions), but I'm pretty sure that the people who want it would tire of it much more quickly than we fighter guys tire of a fighter (which is, typically, never). Seems like a poor cost-to-appreciation ratio, compared to another fighter.

Others have done it with AI for empty gun/bomber/co-pilot spots. I am sure that it would be the same case here as well.

I don't disagree, however, a 'good' AI (and pilot command system to direct it) would also add to the work load.

It would be great to have, just like I would love an AC-130 to play with, but I am not sure how practical it would be as a business endeavor.

I am hopeful, you have LNS who plan to put a lot of work into their AI for the F-14, as well you see some cool stuff with BST and the flight director for the Mi-8. I'm not sure that the command of the entire B-17 crew would be anymore complex than what the F-14 will have to do to be an enjoyable player/AI relationship.

AC130 Specter with full MP crew positions could be a blast. I could have a lot of fun with that. Imagine the devastion you could cause. Night vision with heat signatures!

Echo, some people have many 1000s of v-hours flying on VATSIM which is just flying in straight lines. Bombers will not get boring. I prefer to fly them instead of fighters because I enjoy the multicrew side of life and think flying a single bomber as part of a team on multiplayer will never get boring.

Many people exclusively fly bombers on IL-2 Cliffs of Dover and much prefer the challenge of accurately navigating to a target whilst managing more complex system and defending their 'crate' from fighters and then accurately delivering the bombs on target (which is you get wrong wastes the past hour or so of flying). This makes accurate bombing more satisfying then any fighter kill. Add to this the challenge of working as part of an effective human team and the B-17 will provide simmers with an interesting and enjoyable experience that many including me will not tire of.

Same here Jacks

A matter of taste, but i get rapidly tired of fighters, even when I do only good kills. It's like I act bravely but for nothing.

Like I heard once ago, it's Bombers which wrote history, niot fighters ( in the flight of the Intruder I think )

Plus I'm a crazy B-17 lover, honestly. Even making only cross country flights on a DCS Level B-17 would makes me mad. I already flew hundreds of hours on the Accusim one, but now in a DCS COMBAT environment that would be... just perfect

The B-17 would be great but in my opinion out of place until we have more WW2 aircraft a map and all the supporting infrastructure. I think a lighter two engine bomber such as the B-25 or Wellington should come first followed by an axis bomber for parity.

I think the B-25 would be a great aircraft as it could also operate from carriers if a Pacific map is developed.

Once we get the 1944 map I believe it will be only a matter of time before we start getting multi-engine bombers. AI will come first then slowly the pilotable aircraft will emerge. It's just going to take more patience waiting for the aircraft to develop. The new challenge with the bombers in not just building the cockpits but fleshing out the entirety of the inside fuselage and crew stations. Powered turrets, mounted machine guns.... That alone will take months of modeling and texturing time per aircraft. I think ED and the third parties will eventually work through the back log of single seat jets and props, and fewer multi-seat jets and props that are popular. We will get them, it's just going to take a new level of patience. While I probably wouldn't fly them very much. I think that I would buy several of them when they became available. In the end everyone is going to have their niche aircraft, they can't all be developed at once. It's going to be a while IMO.

I personally believe ED should focus their efforts on WW2. Not because I would like to see it but because it is the most popular genre and would bring a significant customer base to DCS which would mean more revenue and in turn more ED could afford to increase their development of aircraft for all genres. More customers may also attract even more experienced 3rd party devs (such Just Flight, Aerosoft, Carenado, Orbx etc).

Hehe I believe ED knows what are they doing, their in the business for quite a while now.

Formerly Lock On : Modern Air Combat, it still has it's " Modern " image sticked on it and I doubt it will go full WWII side anytime soon. Still loads of Modern Marvels to come ... F-18 among them, which is probably the most demanded module. Then comes choppers where DCS offers a veruy high level of realism.

I would love everything comes in DCS, Cold War, Vietnam, WWII... but it's just too much work for a single module, they can't, as you indeed stated, come all at once.
