DCS: P-47D-30 Discussion

I wonder if those “actual recorded parameters” are being used IN ADDITION to wind tunnel data.... or if the “actual recorded parameters” are being used INSTEAD of wind tunnel data... and how this would relate to the P-47 module!

 

Maybe they can take what they learned about how to record Yak-52 parameters, and what parameters they need to create a fully realistic flight model... and apply that so they can attach the recording devices to a P-47 and get all the parameters in one flight to reduce costs.

 

My only concern is I don’t think they currently fly P-47’s as hard as they did during WWII... so how realistic would the recordings be?

 

You'd have to find a Thunderbolt that still flies, and it'd have to be of the same type they're looking to create.

Additionally, the way The Fighter Collection models their planes might not rest on the same dev techniques/tools they're using for the Yak-52.

 

On the other hand, maybe they are testing the tech out on the Yak-52 for validity, to see if it could be used for the P-47 also. No way to know for sure 'till we hear anything new on the P-47.

In the latest weekend update, there was an excerpt from Yo-Yo about the Yak WIP:

 

“First, I would like to emphasize that the Yak 52 module is currently being tuned using actual recorded parameters from an actual Yak-52. This is why we call this a new stage in PFM development.”

yeah that is a good point, they are flown nowhere near as they were so the data wouldnt really match up to how we would want to fly them in the sim

Yo-Yo tried to explain what these values were that he was recording, and I had posed the question to him about recording a P-47D, the only challenge is really mounting the recording device. In the Yak its easier with the extra room/seat. The TFC I believe had a P-47D that was sold to a place in Texas, as well Paul Allen has one at FHC http://www.flyingheritage.com/Explore/The-Collection/United-States/Republic-P-47D-Thunderbolt.aspx

 

So they are out there. The recorded data isnt the full FM wrapped up in a box, other data is needed. But If its possible I am sure they would love to have it.

Interesting!! So Yak FM could be a test bed to Warbirds and other hard to find data aircraft . That'd be great if the system and recorded info is reliable enough. I guess anyway Yak wind tunnel data is there, so data from one and another can be compared. Very, very interesting.

 

Hope P-47 can be done one way or another to the quality we all expect after precedents.

If I understand correctly, the Yak testing only provided additional information to the standard aerodynamic profile provided by windtunnel and other official testing. It filled in some areas between points of information.

 

But the starting point was the standard profile provided by official testing, which is still lost for the P-47.

If all DCS is waiting on to finish this module is wind tunnel data.... does that mean the 3d model is complete? How about weapons load outs/configurations? Start up effects?

 

I hope the other teams are still plugging away... but I kind of feel like they’ve all been diverted to other projects that will turn a profit faster.

You're looking at this all wrong, the P-47 is not an option until they get that data. Don't expect the 'other teams' to even start development if they don't even have the data to finish the plane.

 

There is no reason to start something they can't finish, instead, they're doing things like the Yak which will give them valuable insights to what actually gets a radial engine to tick. (don't forget all of the current ww2 planes are inline). In a way they're actually doing what you're hoping; they're not standing still. They'll visit the P-47 when they've actually got something to go with.

 

Just as there is no reason to keep popping questions in this thread, or every time there is a Q&A.. They've said it before and I'll repeat them again; once there is something to say about the P-47, they'll let us know.

Hello All,

I have been doing some research into another project, and ran across some NACA docs I haven't seen yet. all are concerning P-47D, however the picture of the aircraft is showing a Razorback. so it's most likely a D-25, but they are testing the wing alone, so the data may or my not be valid, but it might fill in a gap or two.

 

I cant help but think (pray) that the info needed is in an archive somewhere, we just have to find it.

 

I am considering compiling all the already posted info's into one thread so we don't keep posting the same thing over and over, and wasting every ones time, but free time is short for the next month or so, maybe I will get to it then.

 

So here is some more data, it may be helpful if more info was given on what is missing data wise. I do apologize if it was posted and I missed it.

Just saw the newsletter.It is extremely encouraging to hear that they are continuing work on the P-47D and have not just given up due to lack-of-data. The cockpit details look superb. I am really looking forward to this one.

 

Not to mention the CEO of the company has experience in a P-47D... why let all that go to waste :)

Did anyone notice the lever on the left side of the throttle... the one with the "B" on it...for BOOST.. mixture also..man I cant wait for the jug
