Guys, so far I am seeing the same people saying the same things, if you dont have something new to add, or if you have yet to comment here, please do, otherwise we are just clogging up the thread. We cant exact change if its the same 5 people commenting... then it looks like 5 out of the community are unhappy...

Eagle Dynamics New DRM Expiration Period Limit

Hello Everyone,

Please vote what you feel is an acceptable period of time you can be without connectivity and still use DCS World Offline before having to re-verify your account.

Please only vote here so we have only numbers compiled to submit to Eagle Dynamics.

Please post comments, concerns, addtional suggestion in this thread:

IMPORTANT: AV-8B COPY PROTECTION CHANGE!

Happy Simming,

Monnie

Update 1

First off, thank you to everyone that has give a moment of their time to vote

Secondly, many requested " none at all " as one of the choices. I knew from the beginning that was not even on the plate. It's not that I forgot about it, I knew it would be a landslide vote and skew the data of the votes.

Third, I considered an option of " No DRM Expiration Period Limit for Offline Single Player ". Once again, I knew that would skew the data of the votes.

Fourth, If that is really something you feel strong about, " No DRM Expiration Period Limit for Offline Single Player ", you better get off your rear ends, and have you, your squad mates, friends,

every DCS user you know make that heard loud and clear in mass numbers:helpsmilie:

Once again, thank you to all for taking the time to participate.

Update 2

Please post comments, concerns, addtional suggestion in this thread:

Maybe the Steam Offline Mode would be something to look for as a general idea about how to solve playing without internet connection. Maybe ED could adapt that System for DCS.

Maybe most users didn't see the danger of this drm schema: With it, ED has full control of the software. They can easily revoke your license to use the software in the future. And there is nothing you can do about it (besides taking legal steps).

Steam is a hub for hundreds of games, its going to be handled slightly different than what ED does, and even Steams offline mode can be affected by individual games DRMs.

I know. But is something to think about, adapted to ED needs. I think an offline Mode is the way to go

I am sure they could do that with Starforce as well if wanted to. ED isnt out to steal your software back, wouldnt help them make money in the future...

Actually, the terms of the EULA already give them that.

Let me say it was better to tell beforehand what the purchase was gonna be with the harrier :) A complete surprise I wasn't handed a licensekey to signify a unique trade.

Buying an unique license key gives you control to redeem or not.

Buying a license of softwarecopy means a trade (with a trade over the counter I believe). Now this accountbased acces to software is different as you were never in control in the exchange, its a deal you need to accept beforehand.

I mean when I bought the module I expected a trade so I could control what to do with the license. Instead without asking no unique license was bound to my account I think and being controlled with ''spyagent'' to turn it off seemingly. Without visibly seeing no key it could be seen as sharing of software by the form of acces behind the ED wall.

Not to annoy everyone but the harrier is great :)

I mean when I bought the module I expected a trade so I could control what to do with the license.....

The EULA specifically states that the module you are licence is non-transferable.

As such, even if Starforce Proactive was still applicable to your module purchase, you could never control what you did with it, apart from keep it for yourself or terminate your licence and destroy the software.

Fine-print is a bugger :)

I am sure you could try and hide out, not updater or get anything new, but they could revoke your key if they needed to.

Can anyone confirm that StarForce in DCS uses "Periodic license confirmation"?

And what is the confirmation intervall?

Just wanted to weigh in on the debate regarding the new copy protection.

I play DCS on a laptop that I take with me while I’m at work. I get to play on my time off (at work). As you can imagine, there is fairly limited play time available. Often times, I’m in places where internet is limited or even completely blocked (i.e. China). Unfortunately, I do not have the option of playing on a desktop. Many times I do not touch the laptop for weeks.

I understand there is a need to have these protections in place in order to protect ED’s interest. I’ve been ‘happy’ with StarForce since it never bothered me or limited my access to the software. I feel that, with this new system, things are going to change and not for the better.

I know my situation is a-typical. However, I’d be very annoyed if my, already limited, play-time is now effectively reduced to zero due to copy protection rules. Surely, there must be a better way. I know there is (and don’t call me Shirley )...

"It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage..."

Johnny you have been very vocal and have passed your thoughts on for ED which is great, but you seem to be trying to be alarmist now.

ED are not trying to stop you from playing, personally think you are being ridiculous now.

ED have and will listen to the feedback and adjust it how they think will be best all round.

He's not being alarmist, that's exactly how I feel too.
