Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery Trainer

I did everything right, except yesterday without thinking I loaded the original version, rather than the MOD version. :(

Thanks,

Ah, easily done! Glad you're back up and running.

Thanks guys for being proactive with this, finding and sharing the fix with others! Much appreciated! If next patch works okay I will release a new official version asap.

Hey, no problem Bankler - and thanks for the update!

VERSION 5.2.0

SPRING UPDATE!!

2.5.6 Compatible

attachment.php?attachmentid=230706&stc=1&d=1585237694

You can now download version 5.2.0 in the Original Post!

Thanks a lot Sedlo and Kato for helping out with debugging. Much appreciated!

Hope you all are doing well in these difficult times. At least it's a good opportunity to stay inside and pratice traps!

Cheers,

Bankler

CHANGE LOG

5.2.0

* Now compatible with 2.5.6 version (changed script launch to "Mission Start" instead of "Once").

* Tweaked carrier group formation so that the ships don't interfere with each other when group turns back south resulting in a halt.

* Fixed bug where if you enabled "Public Feedback" through the F10 menu you would also toggle the LSO Voice, and vice versa.

* Removed unused speed boat.

Enjoy!

Just by the way question. Would we be seeing the mission integrated into the soon to be released Supercarrier?

I sure hope so! I have pre-purchased it, but it's hard to tell before I get my hands on the thing though. It's possible that technical stuff makes it hard or impossible to do, but it's hard to tell at this point.

If ED would give me earlier access to the module I can investigate it earlier, but I'm not sure if that's a possibility.

A bit of a noob question i know, but I've just returned to the Hornet after a bit of a break and managed to catch the 3-wire, after a few tries. However, in return, it caught me. It just wouldn't let go, despite me raising and lowering the hook and throttling up and down. I only managed to get free by taxiing all the way to the stern of the flight deck.

Is there an easy way to either free oneself from such a situation or, perhaps better still, to avoid getting into it in the first place?

Question, what happened to the G readout in the hud? Is this something I have to turn on? I was refreshing my memory the other day and came across the mention of reading G for the first 180 deg turn. that reminded me I don't see it.

Ok so I have been using this mod for the last few days in the hornet and Tomcat. It reinforced one very important thing...I suck at this.

I was able to get a score of 59 once. I was still all over the place and in real life the LSO would have waved me of in the groove I'm sure due to my turn rate and being to low at the 90. My issue is that I am never able to get the plane settled on AOA and the turn to final is always super ugly. I either turn too fast or slow and the plane just sinks like a stone or balloons like mad. Same in the tomcat. The tomcat is way harder to get on speed I find though. I keep the Speed Brake up the entire time in the Tomcat as well since I saw a video that said to do so. I have seen many many real life videos of F14's and they never have the brake up the entire time... just the turkey feathers flapping like crazy.

I am glad I never got the chance to do this in real life because I tried. My god I think I would have died the first time on final. My brain just stops working.lol

I see other videos where people seem to be able to keep the hornet on speed with a very controlled decent rate in the final turn and approach. I can get it on speed then the plane just wants to fall too fast since the engines seem to be very slow to respond for me which makes it so i get behind the plane.

Side note: I sucked at landing in real life to. So art really does imitate life...

You find you have to constantly move your throttles up and down, if you watch utubes you will see the pilots moving the throttles up and down all the time, they never leave it one place

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Carrier landing takes practice just like aerial refueling I can assure you that.

I still struggle in carrier landing especially in the Tomcat.

As stated by Pete, it is called rocking the throttle, to maintain the proper Aoa in the Hornet, you need to keep moving the throttle.

It is a lot easier in the Hornet because you get lots of information presented on the hud to help you, like Bank angle tape, 25-27 degrees works well for me , rate of course deviation as you turn to the groove, the ICLS and then using the ball.

Jabber's carrier landing video playfully did justice to the stage by stage process.

This happens every now and then (not only in this mission, but in general with the carrier). In 90% of the times, you can wiggle the nosewheel left and right a few times and the wire will let go of the hook.

Sorry to hear that. Stick with the Hornet to start with, it's much easier.

Maintaining AoA should be straight forward; once you're trimmed correctly you should control pitch with throttle only (you should only be moving the stick left/right, no forward/back movement). You can always fly around with gear/flaps down to get a feel for this, without necessarily trying to land on the boat, for practice.

Make small power changes often and early. At the merest hint of the nose moving in a direction you don't want, correct for it before it becomes an issue.

Lastly, changing your angle of bank will alter your descent rate, so try and hold it steady, and where you do need to make a change, remember to alter your power to suit as you do so.

Post a track as well if you'd like feedback.

Thanks @Bankler.

I know it might seem that i was implicating your mission and that wasn't my intention. I make great use of the mission and I thought that this thread would be the most likely place to find someone who had experienced something similar.

As you suggest, I've not experienced it since, so it does look like it's a rare one.

Thanks again, for your help and for creating this excellent mission.

Oh ya I am adjusting power often. The one thing I see is that the power takes awhile to respond in the hornet compared to the VIper. I mean when I go full burner in the hornet there is a lot of lag until it lights. In the Viper or even the Tomcat it is way faster to light off. I have not figured out why that is or if that is the way it is in real life. I am using default throttle curves for each plane.

I did do some practice last night flying around in landing config in the hornet to practice on speed and how to balance the power and decent rate etc. I did end up getting a better feel for it. I then practice some straight in traps and was getting more consistent 3 and 4 wires with the odd 2 wire and being off centerline. I am also still trying to learn how to properly set a CSEL line that will put me on the right heading far out before I can even see the deck and centerline. I always seem to end up way left. I find that the hornet for me tends to be more effected by ground effect than the F14 coming aboard. The DLC's really help a lot for that.

The deck is angled 9 degrees left of ship course, that might be the issue?

ICLS is probably a better bet for you if you want guidance from further out.
