Best P-51D Tutorial (Startup, Takeoff, Landing)

Reflected

Recommended Posts

This is probably the best thing a GoPro was ever used for :pilotfly:

I have a couple of questions though:

1) Some manuals recommend 20 degrees of flap for takeoff, some say 0. He didn't use any flaps either. So what's correct?

2) He turned the fuel booster pump off after takeoff and only turned it back on before landing. Why is that? AFAIK if you do that in the DCS Spitfire the engine will cut out at high altitudes.

1) On normal take offs flaps are not needed. If you are really heavy, like full fuel and rockets, you can use some flaps to decrease take off distance.

2) They go easy on the pumps nowadays in all warbirds as spares are hard to come by and expensive. For example you cant restart the engine in flight if your booster pump is off, because the engines mechanical pump would also be off in that case and you dont have any fuel pressure. Just leave it on in DCS as spares dont cost a penny. ;)
