Hog_driver
I take it you're not a shooter. Well, I actually fired several thousand rounds from pistols and SMGs.
norbot
Well, I actually fired several thousand rounds from pistols and SMGs. Well, probably not during simulated air combat. Else you wouldn't really bother about throwing flares at your enemies air inlet, with a chance of something like 0,0001 % to hit it and even smaller to cause damage with them. :) A-10A, A-10C, A-10C II, AV-8B, F-5E, F-16C, F/A-18C, F-86F, Yak-52, Nevada, Persian Gulf, Syria, Supercarrier, Combined Arms, FW 190 A-8, FW 190 D-9, Spitfire LF Mk. MacEwan
Definitely not a viable tactic but wouldn't chaff be more effective since it's a bunch of aluminum strips?
M1Combat
Or, wait till you have enemy cornered at your 6, then pop your brakes and Ctrl-E-E-E... Keks
Definitely not a viable tactic but wouldn't chaff be more effective since it's a bunch of aluminum strips? No? You guys really overestimate what stuff does to turbine engines. Just because it does some damage doenst mean the whole thing will explode or stop working out of a sudden. For example if inlet ice gets sucked into the engine it is entirely possible that it hits the blades, breaks of a small piece of the edge that piece then hits the next stage breaks a small piece off the edge etc etc. You wont even notice that until your next engine overhaul. Hog_driver
I just realized that my inspiration could be episode 13 of Love, Death and Robots, in which the protagonist fired flares at the cockpit of an enemy fighter during a head-on engagement. So we probably can knock it off for now.
Jonne
Definitely not a viable tactic but wouldn't chaff be more effective since it's a bunch of aluminum strips? If only that question would have been answered in this thread already... OH WAIT  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
