Just got a 1440p Monitor, preferred specs to run DCS in 1440p?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just ordered a 1440p monitor to replace a dying 1080p one I have. I run an i7 4790k, msi gtx 970 & 16 gb of ram, would this be good enough to run dcs on 1440p? If not what would be the most beneficial thing to upgrade? Looking to run smoothly when 2.5 releases :D

Thanks

Trust me, get a 1070. With that i7 you'll rock.

I had same setup as you, with gtx 970. I kept my 4790k and upgraded to an Aorus GTX 1070.

I sold my 970 and put extra money to get the 1070, for the difference I spent I got way much more performance.

Nevada is a piece of cake now :D

My old GTX 970 was running DCS in 1440p just fine. You are not required to replace it, even though there would be definitely a difference in performance.

I was considering a 1080Ti for my next build but not convinced about the current generation of VR hardware, so I'm looking at the 1070.

Would the 1070 be good enough for a multi monitor setup at 1440p in DCS 2.5?

My 980 did a good job @ 1440, the 970 should not be much lesser.

You can try mid-to-high settings, that should work, 2x MSAA is plenty at 1440p, 16x ASF should be ok, water medium maybe, civ. traffic off too maybe, blurr as you like, visibility is a VRAM thing too, so maybe HIGH as max, further up may stutter.

Try, one by one, always same airframe, always same scene, so you can compare.

Different airframes have different results, some give me 65 fps where others have 100+, so dont take one model as a "fixed" thing, it goes up and dow with fps depending in which cockpit you are sitting.

Settings mid/high, 60 fps, MP "dynamic campaign" with 40 players on the server ? 1440 not possible (only if you don't mind 30-50 fps and stuttering).

I think your 970 has 4gb of Video Ram or ? The 1070 offers u a 8Gb V Ram. For simulations a high VRam is in my opinion essential. The Video Card need to have many textures and objects in his pipe so that u dont get stuttering when it reloads stuff.

I have also an 1440p Monitor and took me quite a while with a 1070 to get smooth lag free 60FPS with average DCS Settings.

Maybe my thread about how i get to that can help u a bit.

mmm, what CPU / RAM you running Repsol2k? The only time I run at 60 fps, is very low the middle of Vegas on very high settings.

Here are my base settings for Normany.

Not test any of this in 2.5, will be doing some flights later tonight, will see how it goes.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I'm looking at upgrading my hardware within the next few weeks. So just to recap is the 1070 the best gpu option for the i7 4790k?

I'm not planning on upgrading my processor (would rather not get a whole new motherboard).

I already have 16gb of ram & I'm planning on getting 16 more to get up to 32gb.

Now I'm just looking for the gpu that will give me the best performance in 1440p.

I've read some forums saying some better gpus like the 1080ti would bottleneck with a 4790k. But I'm honestly not techie enough to fully understand which gpus are too much for my processor.

If you can afford the 1080ti I would go with that, Would the 1080ti be waiting for the 4790K, I would say the 4790K should be enough to keep up with the 1080ti, DCS is using the GPU much more now, and if you want to get into VR, the 1070 is OK for VR, 1080ti is recommended and will be my next upgrade soon, I was just waiting to see anything about VR 2.0.

My build was built with the overall throughput in mind. The 1080ti is the missing piece..;)

I'd get the 1080Ti if you can afford it. the 1070 is ok, it's fast too, but only half as fast as a Ti.

I'd now buy a FE and put a wc block on it, cheaper, just as fast, 0dB...and available usually.

Take VSYNC off, you are running GSYNC dont you !?

ASF to 16x is best imho

MSAA 4x does cost performance but looks nice, Off is more fluent imho.

24GB should allow max Preload

oc your CPU if you can. YOur GPU will likely not run 100% with the 4790k at stock settings.

Im running a i7 7700k with 4.6GhZ and Ram i have Corsair Vengeance 32Gb @ 2666MhZ

With 2.5 i can push all up with deferred shading except the MSAA which i run at Off atm and use therefore Nvidia's FXAA and Object Shadows are on Flat cause with Standard i got flickering shadows. Doenst look as good as MSAA 2x or 4x but it gives me a wonderfull smooth lag free picture at 60FPS. Also i have VSync enabled cause i have a FreeSync Monitor with a Nvidia Card so no GSync or FreeSync would work.

Only problem which accours with 2.5 is the Multiplayer behaviour which isnt as smooth as singleplayer but playable without a problem. And we have a BETA so we can cross the fingers that after the touch ups of ED we will get better results in a Final/Release version.

Yes I have g-sync on. So should I always have v-sync off in every game and Nvidia control panel?
