PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

I am really interested in the VR pointing device, really immersive, but i also fly a lot of x plane 11. Are you considering support for x plane 11?

Thanks for jumping in FireCat,

Hi Wakkaman,

Just to reinforce what FireCat linked. While PointCTRL does function with those "other" programs, their native mouse implementation does not provide the same level of a interaction and user experiences as DCS.

Once all of the DCS/PointCTRL goals are complete, I will be focusing on the other sims.

Thanks,

Miles

Thanks for the quick response, Miles.

No additional functionality. It's just that with the regular mouse the time out takes so long and the blue cross is distracting especially in critical moments that I often just switch it off instead of waiting it out. Now this relates just to the regular mouse --- not sure how things will work with PointCTRL as I am not yet one of the lucky ones to have received mine! I guess if returning my hands to their resting positions on the HOTAS will take the FCU's out of view than it will work perfectly. I suspect though that I may still need to LALT-C or double click the mouse middle button to effect this. Or just get used to waiting out the time out!

Hey Bearfoot,

I may not have explained it well by using "time out" to refer to both the mouse cursor, as well as the FCU time out.

You should have no need to LALT-C with PointCTRL. As soon as the FCUs are out of view, the cursor is moved to a default location that is outside your field of view in VR, and it will not show up again even when you move your head. That location, where you cant see, is where the cursor times out in the sim and disappears.

If the FCU LEDs are on, and you look at your hand on throttle, you will see the cursor on the throttle, where it should be. When the FCU LED turns off after it performs it's user preset time-out (between 10 seconds and oo), you will no longer see it at all until you reactivate it by pressing any one of the three buttons.

I know that was a long explanation, but it was a good question.

Without PointCTRL, something as minor as the cursor moving with your head for 10 seconds was a real immersion breaker, and supper annoying tor me.

Thanks for the great question,

Miles

Thanks, Miles! Appreciate the thought and consideration that has gone into the design, as well as you taking the time to answer questions. Looking forward to receiving my PointCTRL!

What is the approximate wait time if I order a PointCNTRL now? Could I have it before Christmas to give as a gift?

Thanks.

As soon as the beta GUI is out next week, I think PointCTRL will be at a level where I can focus mostly on production for now. So to keep me on track, my stated goal is to be through FireCats list by 20 DEC.

We should be able to produce the 25 kits a week to meet that goal. I will post progress chart when I post the now serving numbers.

Thanks for the motivation Doon,

Miles

Hey Blacley, Good to here from you,

Pop on over to the PointCTRL discord in my sig, theirs usually people there to help to help. I park myself in the voice chat when I am at my workstation, so jump on if you see me. Deano has become the default "Western Front Help Desk" (his witty moniker, not mine) and he always seems to be there if someone needs a hand. I often do screen shares on discord to walk people through through the set up.

You should be able to use PointCTRL right out of the box with the Rift S depending on your monitor resolution. Just make sure you close all the blinds and curtains and watch the incandescent lights and give it a go. IR interference is similar to Track IR but since you move your head around, you have to occlude the light that you may end up facing.

After you get comfortable with it, you can calibrate for your set-up and body type.

Good luck and here are a few long and boring videos to get you familiar with things.

Miles

Hello guys,

I stumbled upon the buyers' list and saw Jabbers. Is he the DCS youtuber ?

I haven't found a video mentioning the PointCtrl on his chanel.

Anyone knows if he tested them ?

The FCUs look very promising for VR, a review from Jabbers could help boost the sales.

Keep up the good work Miles !

Sorry FireCat for all the work, The end should be coming soon, when the website goes live for sales. Thanks for keeping things so organized, we all truly appreciate your time.

I know this is an aggressive goal, but I need a bit more motivation to help me focus on production rather than getting distracted by development right now.

Carol will update this chart as units ship, and new groups are announced. The numbers may not exactly correspond as the units may ship in order of payment, rather than line number.

This should help those waiting to get an idea when to expect your PointCTRL, as I get ahead, or lag behind this goal.

Thanks again,

Miles

No problem Miles, it's all good and what you need. Well, motivation that is lol. I'll keep adding them when they request you'll get there eventually if they leave you to it, it's a good job Deano and Clutter are working the Discord real gems.
