[CANT REPRODUCE] BIG FPS DROP WITH FLOOD LIGHTS

JTFF - Raph

Recommended Posts

The performances are decreasing while the flood lights are activated in the Viper since the update. With my friends we had the same issue. There is two pictures where you can see the FPS drop (arround -20%) without head movement.

I couldn't use your track because of mods, but just using the floodlights myself, I only see maybe a small drop, per your screenshots I only see a 10 fps drop, I am seeing a little less, so not seeing a major issue here. I'll leave this open in case others are seeing an issue or maybe I am missing something. Thanks!

Haa yeah sorry the mod is just some ground stuff, my friends have the same issue since the update, here on the picture it drops at 40 FPS but when you pop your head up this drops at 30 or less because of the environement. We directly saw the difference, before the patch it was very smooth everytime (constant 60 FPS). If you want I can drop you another track witout the mod!I think something changed with the increased readability and is not optimised as it was. 10 or 20 FPS isn't huge for the hears but it represent -20% of performance (at high altitude too). One of the best points of the Viper at the release was the performances, very smooth, no drops, I think they might fix it there is a little problem somewhere.

i have the same problem ....

if i had the canopy open all things are good ...

Then i closed the canopy and the FPS dropped from 70 to 54 fps :(

i thought it was a canopy problem, but after i read this thread,

i decrease the console flood (only -- inst flood works) and the fps increased to 70fps

please have a look !

edit: here is a track

canopy and console flood had impact to fps

edit two:

i play around with the Mirage and the F/A-18C ... same problem (but in F-18 not so much) ...

so i found a performance boost for me ... shut down flood lights !

Nineline the drop is not just when you are looking down your instruments , the loss of framerate is constant.

have you tried my track ?

Yes I used it as my reference point

It maybe worth following my crash advice in my signature, make a backup of your dcs folder in saved games and run a cleanup and repair

this will rule out a setting or a mod issue.

I also see this issue in my completely stock and fully repaired install. Also cleared fxo and metashaders and still have the issue.

hmm ... that is difficult ... describe the moment in my track (bad Track ) where i switch the console flood on ...

with new SavedGames and cleanup and repair ... it works 144fps stable

then i change the audio config ... it works like step before

then i change the resolution from 1280*768 to 1920*1080 and then i had a drop from 124 to 100 just in the moment when the console flood was turned on ...

i will go back to my old configration and hope someone at ED could reproduce that ...

Thx BIGNEWY for the attention

too much ...

In your case the issue is linked to the resolution so? I'm running in 2K, what about the other guys here?

yes, my current resolution is 4k and i need every frame i can get :music_whistling:

and i think it is not a problem of the F-16 itself ...

my workaround works,

i let the flood lights off :)

night flying in DCS is NOT a must have (atm) :P

too much ...

Same I don't use it. When I'm flying by night I just use the primary lights to keep some perf!

I had a similar experience in multiplayer, Persian Gulf Map.

The fps drop happened while I was flying over Dubai City at night with flood lights ON and was within 10 miles from a friendly viper (piloted by another player, not AI). After we were further distant from each other, the drop ceased. Maybe the things are related.

Track lost, sadly :(

THX Bignewy, that you let check it from your specialists

Notation:

Wednesday i flew with a friend in MP in NTTR ...

he has a totally different PC configuration (HW and SW) to my config.

and he had the same behaviour ... we lost round about 10% to 20% fps

there must be a little trick ...

and ... i think it is not only a problem of the F-16 !

too much ...

I think at this state this perf problem is not very important because there is a lot of other priorities (like nav lights haha :P). I hope ED will keep an eye on it to work later on... Because if you miss 15 Fps here and here your sim is just not optimised :) Gain some little perf everywhere is a big victory for the DCS community.
