DCS World 1.5/2.0/NTTR Map FAQ & Discussion

One issue I originally had with the Nevada map was that it had no obvious opportunity for ships.

However, Wags said in one of his recent videos, that they have extended the map to include the coast line.

So I guess ships can be deployed.

Does anybody know if we could put gun boats on Lake Mead to defend the Hoover Dam from attack?

Well the as far a source goes my memory seems to tell me that in one recent video, that is since August, where Wags has been streaming or recording videos for DCS World 2 I think he said that the map extended to the coast.

OK so goto this video

at 8.45 into the video Wags says.....the California coast!

I understood it to mean the map extends to the coast but you cannot access it, in the video he shows the limit of the flyable airspace, once you get to the edge of the flyable world you would see only black(?) they therefore extended the map out to the coast to give you something to look at as opposed to having your suspension of reality being unsuspended.

That space is really not meant for spending any time in, but rather making it so you dont see dead space from the active area, which in this case is NTTR.

Thanks for the replies. My questions still remain unanswered....

1.Can you take off from the Nevada area and land on a carrier off the Californian coast?

2.Can you put patrol boats on Lake Mead?

I have pre purchased the Nevada map....I may have to wait for my answers.

2. No info.

In the Caucasus map the edge of the world is infinite grass plains. I've done the equivalent of a circumnavigation without hitting any black "end of the world" area. Grass just keeps going and going. Obviously this is immersion breaking so having a low detail terrain buffer around the outskirts of the NTTR map is important.

1. Doubtful as its an undetailed area.

I would actually guess it's pretty likely. Judging by the editor view from the videos we have seen, the edge of the NTTR map is infinite ocean (instead of infinite grass), so as long as the editor allows us to place a unit in the ocean area, it should be doable. The current mission editor allows us to place units outside of the detailed map area in the infinite grass plains of the Caucasus.

Unintended or not, I don't see anything unappealing about low terrain meshes if it extends the map. I do hope the "Nevada Sea" is usable in the ME, and that future maps are similar.

I must just say....this is freaking incredible. Look at those contrails...the effect even in this screenshot LOOKS AMAZING!!! The propagation and freezing of water vapor has NEVER ever looked that amazing in DCS...or heck even any other game I have seen. Fantastic job. Totally unreal.

I'm really looking forward to playing this with DK2 again. Do you know if the update will include support for Oculus runtime 0.7?

Great question!

Also i would like to know if there are plans, about supporting htc vive.

Will tesselation be used for airports/landscape etc?

I'm a little confused after watching the recent video by Wags. They mentioned several big bugs in 1.5 in this video and I'm wondering if these are the same stability bugs they have mentioned in the past?

I also heard Matt say that they hoped to have 1.5 out by the end of this month. Does this mean 1.5 is not certain to be be released by the end of month anymore? Also, if 1.5 was delayed could it also mean that NTTR might also be delayed further? I was going to pre order NTTR map, but I'm a bit hesitant without knowing it will be defiantly out in November. Are there no guarantees? Thanks!

Remember release 1.5 and L-39 has only a plan, no a deadline

DCS World 1.5

Prior to the release of DCS World 2, DCS World 1.5 will be released. This version will be the much the same as described above for DCS World 2 but will NOT include the ability to use new maps and several of the new map features. We plan to release DCS World 1.5 along side DCS: L-39 Albatros in September 2015.

Not when it comes to hard dates. Stuff happens.

There were no hard dates, late September is and always was a best estimate, there is no reason to loose our minds if its a little later, even into Oct, but be assured, this is top priority right now, getting 1.5 out.

All that said, this thread isn't about release dates, so lets try and keep it clear of that, I am seeing the same guys asking the same things, I am trying not to be heavy handed with the warnings, so please try and keep it on topic.

Question : will you offer an option to fly Red flag TRAINING missions (like in real life) and not only COMBAT missions, where you get shot down by enemy missiles (not so realistic)?

+1 on this as well. An ACMI pod or equivalent would be really cool.

Another question: With the listed AI improvements that will allow for better BFM and maneuvers training, will there be an option for opponents to engage in aggressive maneuvers, but not fire?

This would serve 2 purposes:

1. The ability to do good DACT training using AI (without having to actually shoot down the opponent and allowing for longer maneuvers).

2. There have been many, many instances of opponents engaging in aggressive maneuvers during "peace time", but not permitted to fire (Libya 1986 with the USN, USN vs Iran during the Tanker Wars, USN vs Iraq during Southern Watch, and US vs Soviets during the cold war).

Best,

Nick

That's not in the feature list currently so I wouldnt imagine we are getting it right now. Please focus on the features and items we know about.

Sorry about that, excluding the ACMI wishlist thing, I was wondering about the new AI system Wags mentioned in the 9/6 video. Wishlist stuff aside, is the new AI a DCS 2.0 feature or something to come later down the line?
