My boxed edition of BoB2:WoV included the "wings of power B-17" for MSFS. I deleted BoB2:WoV from my HDD years ago, but I still have the WoP B-17 installed

P.S. the only real WWII era aircraft I've ever flown in is a B-17G. If there's only one you can afford to go for a ride in, that's The One.

I've always been a mudmover, from my old IL2 1946 days although my fav a/c has always been the Tempest. However, most of the time I always flew bombers, usually medium (A20, B25, etc) because the majority of the time you need to actually destroy the targets which 'wanna be ace' fighter pilots couldn't do single-handed. Funny enough...I used to get lots of kills in a bomber purely because noobs would fly straight up behind a bomber and start blasting only for my rear gunner to knock em down.

You MUST have atleast one medium or heavy bomber for ongoing MP play. It adds a whole new dimension to just PvP death match type servers.

The one thing I'm hoping for is a good bombsight plus the ability to put on autopilot.

I still remember playing the B-17 Flying Fortress The Mighty Eighth going over long runs over Germany facing incredible amounts of flak mixed with German fighters. You could man the different positions, take care of the wounded crewmembers, and even when you finished your bombing run there's the long ride home. Usually you had quite a bit of damage from either the flak or fighters so getting home wasn't easy with one or two engines out or your flaps shot out. Just sitting in formation watching the planes getting shot up and taking damage around you was quite different than flying in the fighters seat. Of course the best part was if you laid your .50 cals into some fighter coming in at the wrong angle.

It was probably one of deadliest jobs of the war outside the U-boat service or combat line infantry units.

I'm the odd sort. I'm a Yank (French Canadian parents) who prefers British bombing exploits. Fighters never meant much to me--so much so that I wouldn't even want to pilot the bombers I prefer. I've flown in RL, but I love the notion of being a crewman on a well-oiled human crew. I would be happy being a gunner my crew can count on. For me, it is sad that B17 II was a "different" game, and that its MP support was never realized. To me, that is exactly the kind of game I would stick with if it existed. The "lone wolf" accomplishments mean nothing to me. I feel this about all games. SH3-5: why not have 4-man human crews coordinating the sub's kill? In FSPs with heavy role-playing elements (ala FC3), having a human buddy during the campaign would have been phenomenal.

Ok, I'm whacked!

on IL2 1946 i fly with an squadron on different aircraft but you can see me always in a bomber for two reasons :
- i like fly in a bomber whenever it's take 2hour to go on target and back to base
- i'm not a really good fighter

So i'll be very happy if there is a WWII sim like DCS with a flyable B17 or B24
It's a good thing to add flyable bomber in the early stage of project
It's a very immersive game when you see a box of 12 or more bomber escort by a flight of fighter
12 human b17 player
20 human p51 fighter in escort
and 20 fw 190 to fight against the bomber box

(sorry for my english if it is bad, it is not my first language)

You have to admit though, flying bomber intercept or escort adds so much more playability to a game...

Bombers are way too cool. It's so much fun getting together with more buddies and sneak up to the target.
You can do a lot of damage in one sortie and usually after few targets go down in a cloud of smoke, dust and flames everyone is interested in you.

Enemy fighters try to stop you, so you can't roll the map and a lot of friendly fighters will escort you to the target. I hade some really fun action packed sorties in bombers.
Trying to bring a heavily damaged one back home is just as much fun.

I'd fly the B-17 with pleasure.
